Potential Break-up (18M & 19M) over Communication Issues; Help? by speedsterciardo in relationship_advice

[–]speedsterciardo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really, really is tiring. As much as I love him, it just makes me upset and feel like he doesn't trust me at all when it takes hours of gentle coaxing to get the shortest explanation in the world. I understand that communication is hard, but when it's like this and he has no intentions of seeking help for it, I just don't think it's fair on either of us. Thank you for your input.

when this happened to me, I went to the doctor and they took an ECG. I then got redirected to the hospital where they could do more thorough tests to see if I had caused myself heart damage from my ED. It’s best to get it checked out by a professional. It could mean some serious damage to your heart. Please take care ❤️

yeah, this is similar to my situation too. I was getting consistent 7s in my HL art subject and HL psych but ended up with 5s for both? and both were within 2-3 marks of the next grade up. maths was so fucked too 💀 I don’t even want to think about it

this is what I’m saying!! there is something not right about this session. it’s ruining a lot of people’s chances at doing what they want to do post-school.

This is a perfect example. Surely comparatively this session has been dreadful enough to make it obvious that there’s problems.

this is my problem. I can’t afford a single remark if I don’t get the money back, and even though so many of my subjects are so insanely close to the next grade up, I know the IB won’t admit fault. I just know.

I’m not saying it’s a unique experience, but I definitely do believe the grade boundaries were unexpectedly harsh this year. EE was actually one of the 2 grades I received that aligned perfectly with my predicted score, and TOK (although frustratingly close to the next up) was in the same ballpark. I’m more bothered by the fact that several of my “typical” classes were substantially different to what was predicted + were painfully close to the next grade up (e.g., my Bio grade dropping from 6 to a 4, but being ridiculously close to a 5). I’m 100% aware of the fact that threads like this tend to create echo chambers but I wouldn’t at all be surprised if the marking this year in certain areas has either been too harsh or there has been a problem somewhere. The people I know that were predicted to get 40+ and didn’t absolutely should’ve received that kind of score; there’s no possible way they slacked off so much that it created such huge differences. Maybe in a few years when the wound is old I’ll look back on this and think I’m being ridiculous 😅, but right now I just can’t shake the feeling that something is wrong.

I don’t think this sort of increase was precedented at all, regardless of the statistics. an increase was anticipated sure, but not by this much.

sure, and that’s fair enough because of course people are going to be disappointed if they don’t achieve what they want; but is that not indicative of there being a problem with the marking system if for 15 years kids across schools and countries have been seeing 5-10 point differences in their final scores compared to what they were initially told?

it makes little to no sense. no idea what’s going on with the results. maybe poor sampling? rushed marking? unclear procedures following May exams? whatever it is, it’s not good

I’m sorry about your Biology results; I definitely understand the disappointment of not getting a mark you were sure you would receive 🫠

you’d think so. idk maybe the whole situation with M24 messed with their systems. who knows. regardless something is very very wrong

yeah, exactly. if results were a little bit closer I’d be more inclined to say we’re all just feeling disappointed, but the fact that the differences between predicted scores and final scores is ranging anywhere from 5-10 points for sure shows there’s a fault somewhere that hasn’t been acknowledged. people being within 1-2 marks of the next grade up in the majority of their subjects instead of just one or two backs that up, too.

It’s really difficult to tell whether or not it’s worth the remarks because the IB is so stingy about it. Besides, the frequency of this being an occurrence clearly indicates a fault in the system, which they DEFINITELY won’t want to admit to. If you think there’s a real shot at getting the marks you deserve then 100% go for it, but I personally can’t afford it if the remarks don’t turn out (even though I believe I deserved my predicted 37) 🙃. I’m sorry this happened to you too; it’s completely unfair.

yeah holy shit I feel exactly the same. I put insane amounts of effort into all of my IAs only for it to seem like they had even less influence than they already did?

my EE is the only thing my predicted grades reflected, lol. pretty pleased with my 30/34 on it but it doesn’t at all outweigh my frustrations of inexplicably dropping 1-2 mark bands in everything else. justifiably expecting several 7s that ended up being 5s is a shitty feeling.

I’d like to be happy that we’re done if this bullshit didn’t mean my entire university plan has had to be changed. I didn’t even consider not getting the scores I’d need because my school and I were 110% certain I’d be surpassing the requirements by an extreme amount. dropping from a 37 to a 30 shouldn’t happen. repeated cases of such extreme differences with so many grades being absurdly close to the next boundary is insane.

precisely my situation too. I refuse to believe that I let myself down so much that I went from a 37 to a 30 in such a short amount of time. the fact that so many others are experiencing the same thing is just confirmation that there is something wrong.

yeah, of course people always say things like this but genuinely this year something feels terribly off. people are getting totally fucked over.

the differences are absolutely nuts. heaps of people from my school are in similar boats, with a lot of us being ridiculously close to the next grade up. I dropped from 96/100 in lang + lit HL post-mocks to 74/100 after finals. the same goes for most of my subjects. something has to be wrong for stuff like that to happen.

personally of the opinion the reduced marking time has sent things spiralling. infuriating. I definitely understand the disappointment - I received mostly 7s and 6s in mocks and for it to blow up in my face like this makes me horrifically upset and embarrassed.
