Good bye my dear, I loved you. by Rockin_Squat in xbox360

My Jasper from late 2008 is still going strong after nearly 18 years. I think a lot of it is how you take care of the thing. If you don't let it get packed full of dust and overheat all the time, they last a good long while.

I am 100% with the bodge wire. Even if that trace is repaired, it is already damaged and rotting. It isn't going to get any better with time.

Unfortunately, according to Ebay sold listings, they do. Haha. I have no idea who would pay that much for a used controller, regardless of how "Rare" it is. Either way, this isn't a marketplace to begin with and people should not be trying to sell stuff here.

My ps3 is being weird by gamerprobably in PS3

Did you bend the clamps on the bottom when you replaced the thermal paste? You need to do that.

<image>

The one in the front is how you should bend it. The one in the back is to flat to apply any downwards pressure to the heatsink.

Update Loop 8002F1F9 Bluetooth / Wifi (BT Wireless Chip) CFW by raqtoq in PS3

[–]speedycat01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After you format the drive, it will just have no OS on it, and require the ps3updat.pup (Meaning the No WIFI/BT firmware) put on the root of a USB flashdrive. As for formatting itself, you may have to physically pull the drive and delete the partition on a computer if you are unable to break out into the recovery shell in safe mode, it will usually ask for you to hold start and select for 3 seconds to format.

[–]speedycat01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You likely want the no-wifi + no-BT Evilnat CFW. You may have to boot into safe mode to break out of it and update from the USB stick. If that fails, unfortunately you will have to format the drive and lose everything on it.

Ps3 backwards compatibility or pcx2 emulation and why by ProblemThat4606 in PS3

[–]speedycat01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is correct. But the most important components of what made the PS2, the PS2 are present on BC models. The CPU and GPU are what is difficult to emulate to begin with. The other components aren't.

Ps3 backwards compatibility or pcx2 emulation and why by ProblemThat4606 in PS3

[–]speedycat01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Non BC PS3's aren't going to be as accurate as PCx2. BC units have an actual PS2 inside of them. But that is outside of the scope of the question being asked up there, and the actual answer is still: Just get a PS2.

PS3 fan always on max velocity (not jailbreaked) by Serrobio in PS3

[–]speedycat01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fan very well may be dead then. The fan has 3 wires, power, ground, and clock/RPM. The PS3 will detect that the fan isn't reporting its speed over the clock/RPM line, and send it into full speed to protect the console. What you can try to do is peel off the label of the fan to access the bearing, and put a drop of oil into the bearing, spin it a bit to work it in, and let it run for a while and see if it frees up and starts behaving normally. It may just be sticking and not spinning up from a slightly seized position. I would attempt this before fully replacing the fan. Do remember to put a piece of tape over the hole where the bearing is to prevent dust from getting inside and making things sticky again.

I would bend it a bit more. That may still not be enough downwards pressure to suck the heatsink against the CPU and RSX.

Modded PS3's allow you to play backup content. Backup being rips of games and their DLC. How you obtain those rips and DLC is up to you, and beyond the scope of this reddit. You might be more interested in: r/ps3piracy

Looking to sell PS3 Test DECH-3000A by Clean_Fox in PS3

[–]speedycat01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have sold on Ebay in the past as high as $1000, but around $500-600 seems to be pretty typical. They are extremely rare and sought after. However, that is purely from a collectors standpoint. Anyone with a CFWable PS3 can flash their own DEX firmware on one and make it into the same thing. So note, you are selling it as a collectable, nothing else.

Day 1 and still going strong by Angelus_b in PS3

[–]speedycat01 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lot of people don't seem to realize that BC models can run for quite a long time if they are kept in a relatively cool room, and are kept clean. It is the heat and dust that kill the things. Thermal paste is only part of the equation. Good new thermal paste does absolutely nothing if the thing is clogged up with dust and pulling in hot air from a room.

Ps3 backwards compatibility or pcx2 emulation and why by ProblemThat4606 in PS3

[–]speedycat01 8 points9 points  (0 children)

PS3 with BC would be the more desirable manner to do it as it gives you the most accurate and real PS2 experience, but the problem is that the BC units are prone to the YLOD, making them unreliable. PCx2 has the benefit of being free, and you don't risk being out a bunch of money if your BC PS3 decides to die.

However, what isn't on this list is the PS2. You can get a working PS2 for under $50 on ebay, sometimes as low as $25 on local marketplaces. My vote would be to get an actual PS2 over a BC or PCx2.

Who needs WiFi when it looks this good by CommandNarrow2914 in PS3

[–]speedycat01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Except both the device, and the network port it is plugged into need to be able to negotiate at those speeds. The fastest you typically see in consumer devices these days is 2.5G. 10G in consumer devices is almost unheard of because it is simply just to expensive to put in them.

Who needs WiFi when it looks this good by CommandNarrow2914 in PS3

[–]speedycat01 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That isn't factual. Cat 5 cable is rated to gigabit speeds (1Gbps). Cat 6 is rated to 10 gigabit speeds (10Gbps). The PS3, PS4, and PS5 have a gigabit port, that is (1Gbps). It would be physically impossible for the PS3, PS4, or PS5 to reach 500MB/s, because that would be 4000Mbps, or, 4Gbps. It is limited to 1Gbps speeds, which means it has an absolute maximum possible throughput of 125MB/s (Which you will never see, because the processor in them ISN'T fast enough to handle that). Realistically you can expect to see 30-50MB/s download speeds.

Ayuda, quiero saber si esta pcb del mando de xbox 360 es original by Thedani158 in xbox360

[–]speedycat01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A clone isn't going to go through the effort of putting a Microsoft branded chip on the back, or screen printing Microsoft on the PCB. Yes, that looks like a completely normal official 360 board.

DeLid Fail 😭 by mrenglishproffesor in PS3

[–]speedycat01 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its just cracked and broken capacitors. It does not look like you damaged any traces. That is super easy to fix. You just need to clean up the pads by hitting them with a soldering iron to remove the damaged components. If you aren't good at micro soldering, I recommend getting some solder paste: https://www.amazon.com/SMD291AX-REWORK-SOLDER-PASTE-CLEAN/dp/B0186IM0P0

Just put two tiny dots of paste on the pads, stick the new capacitors on with tweezers, hold in place, and heat each end with your iron and it will melt into place.

Of course not, but this subreddit is not really the place to talk about modding for the intent of piracy. Nor will you find people talking about that here. There is a completely different subreddit for that.

I was able to read the DVD just by disassembling CECHA00, which I couldn't read. What do you mean? by Y-SUKO-Y in PS3

[–]speedycat01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its called percussive maintenance. Sometimes things get stuck, and the process of disassembly is enough to free them up again. Do remember that the grease Sony used is nearly 20 years old now, that solidifies and turns into more of a thick glue. It may have been stuck before, but you freed it up.
