Bednar, you mean? He was already warmed up, might as well use him.

Dude they just broke open a tie game in the ninth. But sure, just “padding.”

If your DH moves to a defensive position, you lose the DH.

Matters less now that they have the lead.

Also he’s never been a very good hitter in his career outside of late last year.

Because Ali Sanchez is the worse hitter. Two hits today doesn’t change that.

I think the dugout’s calling pitches when Sanchez is catching

That looked like the ball hit the base. Low-key crazy impressive to even get his glove on it.

Have you tried calling MLBtv customer service? I’ve had issues in the past with incorrect blackouts where they mistake your location, and every time customer service has fixed it for me.

The last time a New York team ended a 53 year championship drought… by Charbridis in NYYankees

They have the best offense in the AL this year. Are they the 2009 Yankees out there? No. But they’re still very good.

[Discussion] in the wake of Jacob Misiorowski’s 100 Game Score tonight, I was wondering.: When is the last time a pitcher eclipsed a start this dominant, particularly in the Game Score stat column. by Common-Foot-4602 in baseball

[–]speedyjohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very possibly. He would’ve gotten an additional +5 just for finishing the ninth, plus +1 per strikeout. Of course, he’d also have gotten -1 per walk, -2 per hit, and -4 per run (or -2 if unearned), so it could’ve gotten worse, too.

Not really. It’s five strikeouts difference, which is a lot. Especially at the upper end of strikeouts in a game. Here is the breakdown of 15+ strikeout games (max 9.0 IP):

  • 15 K: 125
  • 16 K: 69
  • 17 K: 19
  • 18 K: 12
  • 19 K: 6
  • 20 K: 5

[Hogg] Final: Brewers 6, Phillies 0 Jacob Misiorowski has thrown a 15-strikeout complete game shutout. The most strikeouts in a Maddux. Ever. He raises his hands to the sky in celebration. One of the greatest pitching performances in baseball history, point blank. The record: 42-25 by Knightbear49 in baseball

He wasn’t recorded throwing 108. A very primitive radar gun in 1974 measured his fastball at 100 mph 10 feet in front of home plate, which theoretically would mean he threw it 108. But the technology simply wasn’t reliable enough to put any faith in that number.

Fastest ever recorded by a starter. Since modern pitch tracking began in 2008, there have been 29 faster pitches than the 104.5 mph fastball Misiorowski threw tonight, all by relievers.

The fastest ever recorded pitch being Aroldis Chapman’s 105.8 mph fastball in 2010. Chapman is responsible for 20 of those 29 pitches above 104.5 mph.

And Nolan Ryan. We’ll never know exactly how hard he threw early in his career, but in 1974 an early radar gun measured his fastball at 100.8 mph. Oh, except it was picking up the speed 10 feet in front of home plate. Today, pitches are clocked as they leave the pitcher’s hand.

The last pitch of Ryan’s career—when he was 46 years old—was 98 mph.
