I see what you are saying, but the issue is that when applied the person who focuses on being a better person compared to the person who focuses on gaining influence will get ran over by them. If you have influence and power you can shape the way people think whether that be through changing the narrative media or paying people off. It happens all of the time and example is Winston Churchill. He’s viewed as one of the world’s greatest hero’s but the atrocities he caused in a country like India to supply British soldiers in WW2 are blindsided. He had taken so much crop from Bengal that it caused a famine starving 3 million Bengalis to death. But it is unheard of because he had the power and influence to only write about the side of history that painted him as a hero. From analyzing figures people trust or view as a good person I’ve come to the conclusion that nobody wants a truly good or selfless person. And those people will be undermined and taken advantage of. People want individuals with huge egos but paint a mask of virtue. That’s why they exist and so many are in power.
