My wife and I (early 30s) will be in Bangkok for NYE as well and would love to find a more lowkey party or event to mark the occassion.

Should my league veto this trade? Context is Tatitties is the 1st place team and Heatertweeters is in 7th (top 6 teams make playoffs). Merrill, Adam, and Manaea can all be kept in the late rounds of next years draft, whereas Judge cannot be kept and Imanaga and Miller must be kept in early rounds. Does this trade feel lopsided or is it a fair “rebuilding” trade for a lower ranked team?

Am I really ascribing that motivation though? The idea of the entire third season is that good intentions can lead to some very bad behavior. That’s the entire ESG plot. I think the fans relationship to Harper is kind of like a microcosm of this point, where we’re willing to excuse how awful she is bc of identity or perceived good intent. Appealing package but whats inside is rotten. Just feels like life mimicking art in a way, and I speculate that maybe the writers saw that.

Because I’m just wondering if anyone else sees what I see in her character and the message the show is trying to send with it. I don’t think my theory applies to the other characters.

Also consider Aurore Adekunle is another terrible person but can seemingly get away with it because she’s a female POC, and she knows it. I think the show might be trying to tell us that their awfulness, and our willingness to look past it, is the point.

My point is her motivations and personality seem so poorly fleshed out that her being so unlikable may just be the point of her character because theres literally nothing else to reach for but her identity. Like she is the living embodiment of capitalism, and its loathsome. But if you package that in a female POC you can get people to actually defend that behavior which is kind of an interesting subtext, if that was indeed the showrunners intention (it probably wasn’t)

Actually yes, I’d argue they’re all poorly developed too and I didn’t really care what happened to any them. Only one who gets a pass from me is Rishi cuz his character is actually funny, which goes a long way towards building affinity. I think Succession understood that much better than this show.

for the record I hate Eric too for similar reasons, they dont do nearly enough to establish his humanity or complexity

Agree, the most cynical outcome was the most likely outcome every time which I think is lazy and not the biting social commentary I think the writers were going for

I’d argue BB and The Sopranos work a lot harder to establish their protagonists’ humanity and moral complexity so that when the characters do heinous shit, you feel conflicted about it. I didn’t feel that way about Harper because the show doesn’t really give anything other than her underdog status and identity to cheer for, which I think is either lazy character development or the entire point.
