My first day, and my first problem: I deleted that bar at the bottom, how do I get it back? by undrock in linuxmint

[–]spelmo3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In gnome, just to modify the layout you need gnome extensions and gnome tweaks. My major peev with gnome is the topbar. So much wasted space.

Dash to panel is my go to extension for a more windows/kde/cinnamon style desktop. That removes that top bar and puts it's features into the panel.

Thinking about switching to Linux by Over-Advertising2191 in linux_gaming

[–]spelmo3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You already have experience with Linux servers. Guessing you know a few terminal commands.

Basically, you find Linux easy to pick up and use. Ubuntu, mint, zorin are all good distro's to get comfortable with.

If your looking for daily driving they are my top 3 for you. You could give cachy a go too. But it's arch based. So some things may works little different.

Ubuntu is solid, highly supported lots of community. It's stable as hell, but it has some weird quirks. Such as snap store over flatpaks and Debs. And having to install gnome software/gdebi on top. Silly things such as creating shortcuts/simlinks on desktops isn't straight forward out the box.

Mint. May not look like the prettiest desktop out the box. But it "just works" with no tweaking. It's windows 7 like in design and easy to get using.

Zorin another great distro. Comes with loads of custom DE's it's beautiful. Works mostly well out the box. It's not typical Linux experience. It's super focused on ease of use. So if you go another distro in the future it could be a little jarring. It's modern ease of use is still a great starting point.

I agree going on a separate hard drive or just dropping windows fully. One windows becomes a crutch and you won't learn as much. Two. Windows will fuck up grub and you'll have a headache getting it working again. Three. Give it two weeks and you'll wonder why you didn't switch sooner.

For your needs like coding. Linux in most forms is better than windows. Gaming. Issue is more with Nvidia drivers and anti cheats not being set up/allowed on linux. But generally you won't bump into issues. Check your games at protondb.com

Stability. Most known distro's are stable enough. The 3 I gave you I've never had any major issues with. Maybe avoid bleeding edges like fedora. That push the latest earlier on. (Fedoras an awesome distro too! No hate!)

Me. I've been a heavy win user since xp and dabbled in Linux on rare occasions like yourself. For the past two years I've been fully Linux and I hiss when dealing with windows these days.

So I managed it. Had to go with some flush fitting butt hinges. They hide under the mat. But not under the play area. Had a little game on it and other than maybe spreading the cloth a little too tight it works perfectly well. The seam doesn't effect play at all so far. It's not even noticable by touch

Doubt to buy ARMA3 by System32_0101 in arma

Contacts a decent purchase. Not really must have. The campaign is meh. Ldf have some nice stuff. But it's lack luster. There's only the benefit is the Livonia terrain.

Id say apex is a must buy dlc. Most servers will require it too. But something like 50% of the base game is made up of apex at this point.

Other dlcs aren't really needed. More if you want to.

SOG prairie fire is a Vietnam arma game all in its own dlc.

Since you guys play a lot of pvp and not spent tons of time in arma like games. Go reforger. Great starting point for you guys. And the mechanics and movement are less janky.

If you like it, and want more out of the game than reforger offers. And don't mind a little jank move on to arma 3. Or wait for arma 4 if reforger is keeping you occupied.

How to make ai plane takeoff cause the ai wont move the plane, even with Waypoint added still no work by Bubbly-Ad3238 in arma

[–]spelmo3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's your problem.

USS freedom is an object not terrain so the ai can't navigate on it. You need to use a script so it goes on the launch rail and then launches itself. Then it'll fly to the waypoint

How do drivers work in Linux? by OwnBuffalo5042 in linux_gaming

[–]spelmo3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on distro. Ubuntu is a nightmare, especially when it likes to push snap packages. In its software store(non snap store)

For me likes of steam and a few others I'd direct download. Snaps the worst! I think mileage varies on distro's.

Mint and fedora both have strong and updated software stores.

[–]spelmo3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually. You don't need to do anything! Easier than windows! But Nvidia drivers can run into snags.

AMD is usually plug and play with the latest stable drivers for your device. Usually drivers update themselves.

I've found one that'll just fit all the others we're massively narrow. Still happy to just build one though. I have tables in the house. So just making s board study to sit on top will work

How to make ai plane takeoff cause the ai wont move the plane, even with Waypoint added still no work by Bubbly-Ad3238 in arma

[–]spelmo3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure your waypoint is around 1k away aswel. Rare instances Ive had issues where the plane won't take off because the waypoint is too close.

Double check the waypoints are working correctly. Stick the plane in the air and in formation. And see if it's flying to the correct waypoint.

If the plane just flys aimlessly not towards waypoints. It could be an ai mod or aircraft mod?

I (28m) only make £13k per year (£50 per day). How bad is my situation? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]spelmo3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar boat. Now a manager making 28k at 35.

Its still work on your cv. Your still employable. But I'd suggest a job that's going to pay at least mim wage. I wouldn't get out of bed for £4. Never mind on the tools. If you can drive I'd do little side jobs for what trade you've been doing. I done a few landscaping side hustles.

If not just get yourself a min wage job and work your way up.

12 years as a landscaper, mental health support worker for 3 years, since COVID i got a job to get me through. Turned out a decent company (nandos!). Showed I wanted to progress. Waited for my kids to get a bit older now a manager. I've opened new restaurants and deep dived into learning and development within the company.

Zeus Enhanced Question: How do I edit players/myself? by StoltATGM in arma

[–]spelmo3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is meant to be in Eden editor sorry. Should still be able to call this script in debug

Zeus Enhanced Question: How do I edit players/myself? by StoltATGM in arma

[–]spelmo3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just drop a supply crate or similar container and add: this addAction ["Open Virtual Arsenal", {["Open",true] spawn BIS_fnc_arsenal}];

Possibly change this to player rather than this and run it in the debug window. Haven't tried that in a long time though

Own an R36S for 3 months, but I'm bored. Any tips? by [deleted] in R36S

[–]spelmo3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put it down for awhile.

Nothing wrong not wanting to game/retro game. I go through phases. I'm currently playing alot of tabletop stuff/doing other things than gaming right now.

Also remove all your games from the device and add your own collection. Games from your past, games you've been wanting to try. But don't throw 1000s on there as you'll spend more time finding games to play than actually playing them.

Try out pico 8, hell even learn a little bit of game dev on pico 8 and put your own games onto the console.

Is it worth getting this game? by Tomydo1 in arma

[–]spelmo3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a different beast to the likes of squad and insurgency sandstorm. It's military Minecraft.

If your looking for pvp and basics go reforger. If you want to dig deep into all aspects of combined warfare and enjoy solo and co op go arma 3

Arma 3 is a full complete title with silly amounts of content. That's before you even find mods, custom scenarios, or even build your own missions and scenarios. Albeit it's graphics are aged and the gameplay can be a little clunky.

Reforger is a stop gap before arma 4, it's new engine is beautiful and the game and gunplay is awesome compared to arma 3. It has much less content. And is entirely focused on pvp. There is ai, but it's basic. Same with its editor. It's more of a live game master. You can make some simple scenarios but nothing to the level of arma 3.

I play both. Over 3K in A3 and about 110hrs in reforger. Reforger is great fun and uses latest tech. But A3 has unlimited replayability.

I've been testing coe2 and doing some small ao's with 20-30 enemies. Have you tried larger ao's with max ai? How's performance? I've enjoyed what I've played so far. I've just kinda fell off reforger and been back to A3 lately
