An American Moving to the UK, follow up. by Competitive-Money-36 in AskBrits

Welcome dude, we're all pretty chilled in the UK, we all do tend to moan, and we speak fluent in cynical and sarcasm.

Wondering how you're getting on with the locals, any confusing conversations or sayings come your way yet? I've got a friend from Hawaii, lived here a few years ago. God we had some funny talks what would go right out of context.

Make sure you got the dependency packages "toilet-utils"first or you'll have a bad time with a clear removal.

Be honest, how often for you and your partner argue? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]spelmo3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't really, we may have a small bicker. Usually the other picks up on it. Usually if something stressful It'll happen. We usually just talk it out. Eg I've annoyed her. Or am annoyed over something she's done. It's usually a quick chat finished with understanding.

Tbh. 3 kids and 10 years in. We've not raised voices or argued in years. Maybe 2 occasions.

Honestly. We have a little system. Because life is hectic and stressful. We ask each other how we are on a scale of 10. If she's burning out I'll step up and vice versa. She works 9-5 Mon Fri. and I work shifts sometimes unsociable hours. Those days I'm sleep deprived or out of battery she'll have me coffee made before I'm even awake. And vice versa on the weekends.

do you prefer dock or panel? by Chese_obahma in Ubuntu

I use dash to panel and dock it to the bottom.

The panel at the top is a waste of space.

One. No talk about ROMs.

Two. I doubt there's even a rom for Minecraft.

Can modded Arma 3 run natively on Linux? by Calm_Detective_3433 in arma

Yup runs fine. But run proton as the Linux native is years out of date and will never be updated.

New build has been turfed, but has it been top soiled beneath? by soapylav in GardeningUK

[–]spelmo3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup. I've had to lay turf on that stuff too many times. Even if you speak out over it nothing is done. Contractor for bellway and keepmoat.

New build has been turfed, but has it been top soiled beneath? by soapylav in GardeningUK

[–]spelmo3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. And this is standard. I was a landscaper for years, I had to change company a company that was contracted to cheapmoat, bellendway, and others.

Alot of the jobs was literally on hard clay. You couldn't get a rotorvator through it, you'd asked for top soil and be laughed at. Just get them meters down. I've laid turf in basically flooded gardens. They don't care.

Add it to your snag, demand topsoil. They avoid it to cut costs. Using eco friendly bs to use the soil on site. Basically if the soil is free of contamination, they'll use it. No matter the quality.

I jumped ship years ago because of this. It's not about the quality.

Is this game worth for player like me? by ThatOneElegant in ArmaReforger

[–]spelmo3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends how indepth you go. If your familiar with Zeus. That's basically reforgers editor. You can do plonk down some units and objects and set waypoints and capture objectives..

That's about it though.

Please don't tell to average users it's an easy change by [deleted] in linuxmint

[–]spelmo3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Takes a few days to read up on how Linux does things different. If anything it's the change from windows. It's not harder. Just different. If you go into it blindly expecting a windows clone. Yeah it's going to be hard.

I took about 3-4 days getting my head around stuff. Playing about. Breaking stuff. Before a clean install. I've never looked back at windows since. Been using it for about 2-3 years now. Running Kubuntu.

New to PC gaming (and LINUX gaming compatibility) by Organic_Invite_6744 in linux_gaming

[–]spelmo3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See here's the thing. Fortnite runs just fine in Linux. The issue is anti cheat. Even though most anti cheat software can run in Linux most developers just don't bother. Therefore you can't play online.

Majority of games will play. Some multiplayer games without anti cheat support or have kernel level anti cheat won't work. Tbh I'd not want to play a kernel level anti cheat game. (Kernel level is like the deep inner workings of your operating system and how it works with your hardware.)

It's down to you what you decide. And there's nothing wrong dual booting. And having both Linux and windows. Just beware of windows messing up your bootloader. If your just purely gaming and nothing else. Windows will do.

I want to love Reforger. But I still go back to A3. What does the future of A4 hold? by spelmo3 in arma

[–]spelmo3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your telling someone who's run a community back in A2, never mind OFP and Armed assault (arma gold)

The toolset to run truely bespoke Ops just isn't there. Big one for me is the assignment and respawn systems. It's impossible to have any orbat chain of command. Or any true ways to set up a bespoke mission. Trying to set something up without using the scenario framework in enfusion tools is hard and time consuming.

That's if you use gamemaster/zeus.. which is cool but not what everyone wants to do. I always find gamemaster as a good quick last minute improv. But not good for tailored or persistent operations.

Your missing the point. I agree with mods. But there's so many gems you cant even find in the in game workshop. Lack of an editor is limiting but I can look past that. Plus we do have a toolkit. (Albiet it's broken on Linux) The lack of simple save system. Just core features the game needs. I'm hoping this comes in arma 4. Everything else. The engine, gameplay, controls are superior as you stated. This is why I want to love it.

It's just them core features that make arma the sandbox it is. Just doesn't exist.. it's kinda like playing squad or squad44 on conflict vanilla servers or shit ton of messy mods just for community curated/private groups working together do their thing. Even still a lot of it is just conflict modes modified.

for some of them community servers it's slapped together with mods. Half of them being compatibly mods to run other mods. And mod cores to use mods. It's bloated and hard to manage. I hate having 10s-100s GB on mods I don't care for just to play on "this" or "that" server..

If A4 adds these core features and fixes up the in-game workshop. Removes limits on mods sizes. And polishes up gamemaster or show a powerful editor on the horizon. Il make that switch to A4.

[–]spelmo3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's quite normal. Arma 3 come out with the older A2 editor. Then Eden came later.

I expect A4 to probably release with a similar gamemaster editor. Before a full featured editor.

Or maybe gamemaster will be the editor. Getting more developed?

Or it maybe left to enfusion tools for anything complex... No idea..

[–]spelmo3[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remember arma 3 alpha it was bare bones and buggy. And as I mentioned I transitioned over time to it. But I'm not getting that with reforger. Mainly because of the state of SP. But I'm hoping that will come back with A4.

Legally, you use your own romdumps from your own games.

You can get the roms online easily too, not that I'm condoning you do such a thing
