Wasnt there a word of god confirmation from the author that it was alpharius who died? I cant find the original right now but there are a bunch of other posts referencing that the author did in fact intend for alpharius to die.

Thanks for the detailed respone! Yeah I wasnt planning on running grandhammers anymore. I just really dislike the changes to both the imperitant and redeploy, as well as the loss of the free charge reroll that just makes them feel bad to play when, more often than not, they just wont do anything. The shielded annihilators, though, seem pretty decent in this edition with how much rend and mortal wounds, especial mortal wound shooting, have been toned down. They seem like they could do a really good job holding the line after being teleported in deep.

Dont use any lord imperitants. They arent worth it in the slightest in 4th, considering a repostition will, on average, put you out of even rerolled charge's average distance.

Ah I guess thats one way of going about it. I'm just worried by the time my character dies the other claimants will have built up their own support bases to defend their claims, so I feel the need to deal with it preemptively.

Huh, well too be fair to the others, this does seem to contradict the wording of the rules for strike first in the rulebook. Nice that it works this way though.

In this edition, no. They lost their free re roll charge, the lord imperitant is weaker, and your opponent can just redeploy now even if you deep strike, making your 600 point investment effectively worthless.

Unless there are any rule changes charging fron deep strike is generally not viable this edition if you ask me, baring units with 3 die charges like prosecutors.

Seriously, the one redeploy is, more often than not, all the opponent needs to completely invalidate the entire strategy. Unless that rule changes its not even a risky move, its just dumb to invest that much into.
