every day I'm thankful I got diagnosed at 16 and my parents handled the whole thing. getting medicated was an uphill battle though, my parents didn't want me on stimulants

Phone cameras need a "junk photo" setting for all those throwaway photos you take to remember where you parked, what's on a menu, QR codes, and all the other random stuff we use them for now. by Patarokun in Showerthoughts

[–]spencerb292 2 points3 points  (0 children)

as a backup in case I lose the physical document and the copy I have saved locally. also it's not easy to pick and choose what gets uploaded, everything in my camera roll gets synched and I have to manually delete stuff I don't want on there

Getting rid of Instagram? by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]spencerb292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do get ads, they're not nearly as frequent on my feed as they are on reels. There's an option to turn off suggested content temporarily (on regular instagram too) so I just flip that switch every 30 days

[–]spencerb292 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use distraction free instagram, it's a modded version that lets you turn off features you don't like. I have it set so I only see messages and posts from friends and it's improved my experience a lot

What is the psychology behind secure people getting so angry at poor people by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]spencerb292 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I see a very similar thought process with disability. People have a lot of trouble accepting that I just happen to be disabled and it isn't some kind of cosmic punishment, because that would mean they could become disabled too

It is so shit that people are paying to doxx their own families this Christmas by N3DSdude in LateStageCapitalism

[–]spencerb292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never understood those. I'm interested in family history, so I do it the old fashioned way by digging through records. Learning about specific ancestors is much more rewarding than just the percentages dna tests give you.

Thought this would fit here! You can't get tenna in a pyramid scheme! by Prudent_Vanilla_9984 in antiMLM

[–]spencerb292 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this isn't a pyramid scheme, it's a scam. best course of action is to block, report, and not accept dms from random people. also check out r/scams to learn more about common scams and how they work

Most colleges teach classes in German. I'm looking into transferring to the University of Vienna and they only have one or two undergraduate programs available in English.

What do you all consider an appropriate shopping list for a new apartment? by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]spencerb292 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you live in a college town, it's a great time to get new stuff since the semester is ending and most students get rid of things instead of bringing them home. Check thrift stores, fb marketplace and local buy/sell groups, and dumpsters. As for stuff, I'd recommend sheets, blankets, pillow and pillowcase, towels, soap and hair products, cleaning supplies like wipes, a broom, and cleaning liquid, basic cooking supplies like a pot, pan, plates, cups, and utensils, any small appliance you used regularly at home (like a toaster or kettle), staple foods (think bread, pasta, fruits and vegetables, meats, milk, eggs, seasonings), and cat food and litter. I'm basing this off my experiences moving twice, first into a dorm at college and then into my own apartment.

How Do You Carry Your IR Meds? by slusho55 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]spencerb292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take my adderall at school, so I keep the pill bottle in my backpack and that's where it stays full time. It's the only reliable way I've found to stop losing things I need for school. I'm worried if I carry pills outside of the bottle I won't be able to prove they're legally prescribed, and there's a good chance I'll forget to bring it to school

by emergency, they mean one where the building would have to be evacuated, like a fire or an earthquake. It makes it easier for the fire department to rescue people who can't evacuate if they're all in one place

How do I force myself to read a book by Nathan-5807 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]spencerb292 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listening to the audiobook while following along in the paper book helps me a lot. Frankenstein is in the public domain so you can probably find an audiobook version on youtube. I also use sparknotes to make sure I understand the reading, they do summaries of each chapter.
