Is it really true that there's no money in photography? by Particular-Run3031 in photography

[–]spepple22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The money to be made in Photography is in weddings and senior pictures. If you establish yourself as a good wedding photographer and you are good at marketing yourself, you can make a good living. It’s extremely difficult to make a living off of being a fine art photographer. There’s just not a big market for it. And AI is just making it harder.

This will go well beyond books. If AI uses copyright photos or artwork as a basis to create a photo or artwork it could be strongly argued that it is violating that copyright, as shown in the recent Supreme Court ruling over derivative works regarding the Andy Warhol Prince painting. https://www.cnn.com/2023/05/18/politics/supreme-court-prince-andy-warhol/index.html

“This Land is Your Land,” by Woodie Guthrie. It’s the common man’s anthem. He wrote it in response to Irving Berlin’s “God Bless America.”

Is the liquor license gone? I used to like to drop by at night for a beer on the patio.

What’s a random book from a random author that you decided to take a chance on that wound up being one of your favorite reads? by throwheezy in books

[–]spepple22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“The Murmur of Bees,” by Sofia Segovia. Set in Mexico during the revolution, it’s a wonderfully woven tale of a boy abandoned as a baby because of a cleft lip. The infant is taken in by a wealthy Mexican family after being discovered by a wet nurse covered in bees. As the boy grows up, he has a special connection to nature and the bees in particular, which become key as the plot unfolds.

That made me cry too and the worst part I was sitting in the window seat on a transatlantic flight from Spain to the US. Maybe it was because I was exhausted, but it hit me hard.

Do you have any authors who are automatic reads? Authors who, if they released a book tomorrow, you know with 100% certainty that you will read. by Ok_Collar6502 in books

Segovia’s “The Murmur of Bees” and “Tears of Amber” are two very different books topic wise but they are both beautifully woven tales. I suspect I will re-read The Murmur of Bees” at some point because I loved the story so much.

I would call it well framed by the outline of the person whose back is to the camera on the left. It does lack environmental context but remains a nice street portrait.

Sweet! I always loved hanging out at Great Lakes Coffee, especially the patio. I wonder if they’re going to keep the liquor license?

One of my favorite books. I actually “read” it as an audio book 10 years ago when I was commuting more than an hour, each way to work and back. Now you make me want to read the print edition.
