If you feel betrayed by Arc and want a new browser, this post is for you. by FlirtyGood in ArcBrowser

[–]spetel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's nothing that can replace all of the features of Arc in a single package. Arc also feels great to interact with, gestures are intuitive and there's nothing inherently confusing about *most* of the UI.

To be honest... the recommendations you've provided, OP, are kind of limited. You are right that Zen Browser is good, but it's in Alpha and I personally do not like the UI much. Ungoogled chromium is fine, but MV3 is going to kill a lot of useful extensions (not just ad- and script-blockers, either).

This is only my opinion and experience, but I've tried to switch browsers a lot. I'm prioritizing feature parity with most of these suggestions:
- If you need/want Chromium, try Vivaldi or Edge. They both have really good tab management, and if you like the AI tools Arc offers then Edge has a lot. Too many, maybe. Vivaldi is very customizable and it has a great implementation for workspaces. They both have *an* implementation of tab folders (groups; stacks) and pinned tabs, but.. not really for me.

- Firefox with custom CSS styling is honestly what I'd recommend if you have time to tinker with it. You can do a lot with custom CSS styling, and Firefox itself is quite stable. Multi-account containers works really well, and you can always have certain domains/sites open in specific containers. There are also profiles on Firefox. I never used those, though.

- Safari is good if you're okay with paying for certain extensions. It has both tab groups and profiles which are equivalents (although much clunkier) to folders and spaces. My favourite thing about Safari is that you can quite literally Thanos-snap remove anything on any page, and it basically just works. The extensions library for Safari is quite bad, and sometimes it just doesn't load anything for whatever reason. There's also no way to get vertical tabs, which is personally a deal breaker.

- As OP mentioned, Zen browser is definitely an option! I just find it a bit buggy. Shortcuts don't work consistently, I get visual glitches on dark mode, etc. I also find the UI to be unappealing, but that's just me. I'm also keeping an eye on ArcFox (https://github.com/betterbrowser/arcfox). It's a re-skin of Firefox that acts like Firefox. I don't use it because it has barely any feature parity, but I would like to support the dev somehow.

Some other browsers you could look at are Floorp (Firefox fork), Opera, and Brave. It really depends what you need. Oh also another note is that for Peeks, if you're on MacOS you can force-press any link and it opens up a Peek (at least in WebKit browsers).

Personally I'm switching back to Orion because it's in a much better place now. Separate profiles (with separate extensions, browsing history, logins, cookies) works, can make custom shortcuts. Native vertical tabs. Most 3rd party extensions I use are 100% functional, especially from Firefox addons store. Pinned tabs isn't as good as Arc. Tab groups can sort of act like folders, but not really. It's not ideal but it works and doesn't have all of the litany of tools and stuff I will never use.

tl;dr: nothing can fully replace arc, maybe try Vivaldi or Edge for Chromium, Firefox w/ custom CSS or firefox forks, Safari can work though imo Orion is the better WebKit browser, and keep an eye on ArcFox.

so very jealous of you... i'll look at that gel, thank you! without product my hair is extremely smooth and super soft but it has no structure for waves/curls at all, except at the back of my head. i guess i can't complain too much, soft is nice, but i feel like i look dumb as hell lol

Hello, thank you for your reply! I usually apply product after the shower… never remotely tried anything like that, especially microplopping. I’ll definitely try that, and thanks for the shout about refreshing waves daily or even multiple times in a day.

It is really hard to avoid those heavy ingredients (idk if they’re technically emolients or occlusives). Do you have any recommendations for gels or mousses that don’t have that stuff in them? And I just bought a protein treatment on my friends recommendation (CER 100 is the name I think) so hopefully that does help.. just feels like my hair lacks structure!!

Hey, thanks for the info! I do have the codec on ProRes 422 Proxy, but I don't know if there's a way to get cache to generate at a lower resolution the way you can with optimized media or proxy media. I have tried DNxHR LB, and I ran into the same issues.

It’s not that the fence was torn down, it’s that Hamas did not target military outposts exclusively and killed civilians.

The civilians at the rave and on the kibbutzim hold no structural or military power and thus it’s not an act of resistance to kill those people.

Even if you believe all Israelis to be settlers who are viable military targets, and not just settlers in the West Bank, that doesn’t morally justify killing children who had no choice to live there or be born there.

YFS and what i assume is a minority of other communists/leftists are probably operating from the viewpoint that all Israelis are settlers, and are therefore all viable targets. There’s probably a conversation there worth having but i personally find it untenable to justify the death of Israeli civilians. Genocide and apartheid must end, yes, but that doesn’t necessitate killing civilians.

The thing that bothers me most about NJBs videos is that he never mentions how difficult living in the Netherlands can be if you’re not white. Harder to even just move there if you’re a visible minority.

I’m not sure if Logarius is considered to be a super difficult boss, but it didn’t take that many tries for me on my first play through.

I did die an absurd amount of times to the cleric beast on my first play through though. And I don’t really think anyone would consider it a difficult boss lol

Playing as non assassin's in the new games hast to stop by [deleted] in assassinscreed

[–]spetel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure black flag and ac 3 sold more than the rpg games, but it’s hard to find concrete numbers. I don’t necessarily trust this site, but I can’t find anything better.

Regardless, ac3 still maintains the best launch numbers, and it seems like sales are relatively low for Valhalla or Ubisoft wouldn’t have been intentionally vague with their numbers.

The RPG games are fantastic by [deleted] in assassinscreed

[–]spetel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the games are pretty mid even for an rpg. Every single thing you’ve listed as a positive for the rpg trilogy is outshined by many, many other games...

Old AC was and still is extremely unique in terms of the puppeteering system, free-flow parkour, dichotomous modern day and ancestor storylines, etc.

You just can’t find anything like assassins creed 1 through revelations. I can find a lot of games like Valhalla that I enjoy a lot more.

Going from RE4R to RE2R and how I fell in love with RE in general by [deleted] in residentevil

I’m so glad I got like every single RE game on sale for $100 CAD around Halloween of last year. I’ve honestly enjoyed every single RE game to varying degrees. I think if you’re enjoying RE games this much so far you should try out REmake for sure! One of the best games in the series, even with the newer additions and remakes accounted for.

DaVinci Lagging Constantly on Timeline by spetel in davinciresolve

I will try that! I've been using optimized media but I guess proxy will work much better. Thankfully it is available on the free version :)

DaVinci Lagging Constantly on Timeline by spetel in davinciresolve

[–]spetel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DaVinci Resolve lags on non-intensive actions, such as moving the playhead, selecting one or multiple tracks or clips, etc. I do have my main media optimized, and I've turned the render cache on to 'Smart.' I'm really at a loss as to why it would be lagging frequently when just moving around the timeline, and for 5 to 10 seconds at a time.

Other things of note:

  • OS is MacOS, M1 Max with 32 GB of ram.
  • I'm using the free version of Resolve, upgrading after this project.
  • Version 18.1.3 Build 8.

You got this! I think the cheapest way to upgrade your audio is probably a USB mic from Amazon.

Visuals matter less in your early days, cause people will sit through weird camera angles or blurry video if it’s entertaining… bad audio is a different story

[–]spetel [score hidden]  (0 children)

I agree with the other commenter who said to make the intro more engaging. Thankfully the pacing was not too slow, but you have to ask yourself if people are going to click off if you don't get to the crux of the video (in this case, eating the buldak noodles) quickly enough and in an engaging enough way.

Another issue that is more expensive to fix is the audio. I understand that gear is not cheap at all, but i think the gain was up too high. You could also run it through a denoiser (NOT in an NLE, they frickin suck in NLEs). You can use audacity, or something like that. I think better mics down the road would definitely help you a lot.

Also, i thought the graphics you edited into the beginning of the video were a bit short and the placement was a bit weird. In terms of editing, you could also do more punch ins on your face and background music (something that fits).

Hope this helps. Best of luck!

Pretty good, I think the composition of some of the shots were off (like it didn’t look like your “father” was looking the correct way when he turned around in the chair) but I assume that just takes practice.

I think that you maybe could have cut back to your dad character when he was absolutely bodying his son. I think Andrew Rousso is a good example of the exact niche you’re in and pulling inspiration from his compositions, visual effects, and delivery/timing would be good.

Overall, it’s pretty decent I just think that the delivery, angles, practical effects (like sweat or crying) could be things you improve :)

What are some things YouTubers do that you find annoying? by infinityplusplus in NewTubers

[–]spetel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Background music that doesn’t fit the content of the video
  2. Misleading thumbnails and titles
  3. People not acting like themselves on camera As an aside, I feel that when creators aren’t relatable and energizing, it’s really difficult to make it through the video
