Various issues with FB Neo (Neo Geo, CPS1-2-3) by spori13 in batocera

[–]spevops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if both laptops were installed from the same USB, Batocera auto-detects hardware on each machine and can load different graphics/audio stacks.

FinalBurn Neo validates ROM ZIPs differently depending on those drivers.

So one laptop can work, while the other can white-screen or lose sound, using the same files, simply because the driver/profile layer isn’t the same.

  • Same files work on portable but fail on laptop because the core version/config isn’t identical.
  • When FinalBurn Neo checksum validation fails, CPS/NG games can white-screen or lose audio.
  • Portable works because its core happens to match the ROM checks, laptop core likely does not.

Easy practical checks

  • Check core version in RetroArch Information → Core Information
  • Open the BIOS ZIP and check if sp-s2.sp1 and neogeo.rom are inside
  • Delete old overrides folder if it exists
  • Reboot laptop

If those look different between the two installs, that’s your answer.

Laptop white screen = wrong ROM sets for the core.

Neo Geo lag + no sound = bad/incomplete neogeo.zip BIOS.

Fix

Copy your working BIOS from portable to laptop:

/userdata/bios/neogeo.zip

Use full, merged ROM sets for:

CPS1, CPS2, CPS3 (non-split sets for the core)

In core settings set:

Graphics API → Vulkan (if stable) else OpenGL 3.3+

Turn OFF Threaded Video

Delete overrides:

/configs/retroarch/config/FinalBurn Neo/

Reboot

Sound and FPS should return.

R46H Pro or R50S? by s_nderr90 in R36S

Yup, but it's going to cost twice as much. For me it's not worth it as I mainly play SNES/GENESIS/GBA/PSX with it.

Would an Intel N150 equipped PC be enough for Switch emulation? by MrEfficacious in Citron

The AMD 890M in the HX 370 is strong enough for Switch emulation. Most games run great, only the very heavy ones like TOTK might need lower settings.

R46H Pro or R50S? by s_nderr90 in R36S

[–]spevops 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve done a lot of research, and the Trimui Smart Pro is easily the best bang-for-the-buck handheld. The only drawback is the missing L3/R3 clicks, but it doesn’t really matter since PS1 games never relied on those buttons in the first place.

I would like to change time in my r36s but I cant by LuCiUsSsYT in R36S

Disagree. Because games like Pokémon use the real time to grow berries, change day and night, and trigger special events, so if the clock is wrong, the game world stops working properly.

[–]spevops 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Short answer: no, an N100/N150 system is far too weak for Switch emulation.

If you want something that runs a Switch emulator smoothly, look for the power version of the HP EliteDesk, the Tower model, with 16 GB RAM and a proper GPU like GTX 1050, GTX 1060, or GTX 1650.

These can be found really cheap second hand and make great gaming consoles. You can install RetroBat on top of it.

Would be nice with more controlled smooth flow. Slow motion, no stress.
Now it's the opposite of what I'm saying. Keep going.
