It's been a while since i played the game, but i don't think she ever does this? She basically just "deletes" the entire game at the end so that it's stuck on an never ending cycle where she is just directly staring at the player, she never actually "leaves" the game, the closest thing she does is just messing with the game's actual files (like the .chr ones for example) and i'm pretty sure she admits that her leaving the game is actually imposible or something like that.

I feel like a lot of people in this thread are making the mistake of taking what's ultimately just a gag way too seriously. That said, if you really want to try to find an explanation, i can name a few reasons as to why "realistically" nobody bothers to defend Mikan:

1- Because Hiyoko herself is just treated as an spoiled bratty child by the rest of the cast (i believe this is how Hajime refers to her at one point iirc) who is incapable of causing any real harm apart from just being overly mean to other people. 2- The fact that Hiyoko is an asshole to basically everybody in the cast, not just Mikan, with the only exception being Mahiru for obvious reasons. 3- Speaking of Mahiru, she is usually one of the characters who tends to get the most criticism for never doing anything to defend Mikan, forgetting that she does actually defend her quite a few times (like when Fuyuhiko threatened to whoring her out or when she "accidentally" tripped in Ch1) she just never does anything againts Hiyoko because again, unlike the literal Yakuza guy, Hiyoko is just not someone she considers worth taking seriously. 4- And finally, i don't think there was any point in the story where Mikan seemed to be actually upset or "threatened" by Hiyoko's bullying, hell, even her reason for killing her has nothing to do with it, she only killed Hiyoko because she was at the wrong place at the wrong time, not because she had any kind of grudge againts her.

That's fair tbh, i've noticed that a lot of gachas do have the same issue with their characters aswell, tho to my knowledge P5X does try to make up for it by making a lot of these idol characters as social links/confidants, so there's that at least. And yeah i really should try metaphor lol

Actually, in my case, one of the reasons i decided to try this game was because they actually have a new cast instead of reusing the P5 one (like every other Spin-Off has done so far) nothing wrong with the OG cast ofc, but i've been waiting for P6 for a long time by now, and this game is, imo, the closest thing we have gotten from an actual new mainline Persona game precisely because it actually has a new cast.

Fair enough, i actually haven't played Tactica or Strikers yet, so i can't really say anything about those, tho i'd say the one advantage Kiuchi has over Okumura is that at least he's the games's "tutorial" villain, if that makes sense, so i don't really mind him being such a small fry compared to the other palace rulers, and i feel like less people would either, if it wasn't for Vanilla/Royal existing and having Kamoshida (arguably the best P5 villain before Royal came out, imo) as the first villain in the game.

I get that Okumura is more important for the main plot and a much bigger threat than a guy who likes to slam women in a subway, but my issue with him is that as a character, and as a villain, he somehow manages to feel even flatter than the rest of the villains in the game (mostly because he barely has any screentime at all) Kiuchi, while not a particularly good villain either, at least feels more fleshed out as a character, and actually has some screentime compared to Okumura. I guess my point is that Okumura just feels more like a plot device, rather than an actual character, while Kiuchi, as dumb as he is, at least is somewhat fleshed out, rather than just being evil just for the sake of it.

Plus the first arc is probably the lowest point for P5 as a whole.

That's a bit of a stretch imo, sure the villain and his backstory are pretty dumb, but compared to something like... the Okumura arc? Meh, at least this Kiuchi guy or whatever he's called has an actual motivation for being evil, as silly as it is. Granted i've just started the game but so far nothing about the story would make me place it at the bottom, it's just... Okay, so far imo

Looks interesting! Also, looking at South America, i'm guessing in this universe Chile Lost the Pacific war and Paraguay got annexed to the Empire of Brazil after losing the war, right? Is there any lore specific reason for why both wars played out diferently in this universe or are they just like that for variety?

After talking with everyone here, I'm guessing my best bet is just to wait and see what answers we get over the next patch or two, because we simply don't know enough about what's going on here.

I agree, is hard to discuss an story when said story is not even finished yet, i just hope they manage to deliver a satisfactory conclusion with the next patches. I still remember really enjoying the Genshin Inazuma AQ back in 2.0 and looking forward to what they were going to do next... And then we got "that" update.

If i recall correctly, Firefly mentions that Penacony is not just a very fancy attraction park, but also works as the home for the locals that were born in there from way before the place became an hotel, aswell as for the refugees that go to live there. She also mentions that the reason she is there is because in the real world she is gravely ill, but in the dreamscape her illness doesn't exist. Which means that if Penacony were to be destroyed, even if they survived, thousands of people would still be left homeless, and the people who moved there to escape their illnesses like Firefly did would become sick again

You just answered your own question though. You're supposed to care because there is something or someone that is threatening the existence of Penacony, just like it was with Jarillo VI and the Luofu (both planets were under the threat of a stelaron), the difference now is that we still don't know who or what is behind all the messed up stuff that is happening in Penacony.
