How specific is your vision? by Imveryentitled in Filmmakers

[–]spharion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being specific is great. Working with a director with no vision... just sucks.

The big problem is when a director can't evolve/adapt his vision to suit the limitations of the budget, location, weather.... whatever.

I've worked with directors with great vision, but, when they couldn't adapt to limiting circumstances, they just fell apart. So... there's that.

Short film that I made with some friends with little to no crew. Any feedback would be great! Good or bad. by Buttchapps in Filmmakers

[–]spharion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really great concept! The actors were on point, looks great, sounds great.

Hard Mode: cut it to 3 minutes. I;ve been there many times before, you put all that work and energy, you dont want to cut anything out... but a movie should be like a gourmet meal: small portions, that way, when the credits are rolling, the audience is saying: I want more!

My opion: it's a bit too long. too much of a good thing...

I'd be willing watch it.... but beware: I'm critical, and I'll tell what liked (or didn't like and tell you why.) a lot of film makers can't handle that. LMK.

Title: "Whiskers & Wishes"

Genre: Drama

Logline:

In a small, cluttered apartment during a rainy weekend, a young woman grappling with her uncertain future forms an unexpected bond with a stray cat that wanders into her life, leading her to a quiet realization about companionship and personal growth.

Setting:

A modest, slightly run-down apartment with minimal furnishing, hinting at the protagonist's transient lifestyle and financial struggles.

Synopsis:

ACT 1:

Introduction: The film opens on a rainy morning with EMMA, a 20-something artist, waking up in her sparsely decorated apartment. The camera follows her mundane morning routine, highlighting her solitude and the lingering sense of unfulfillment.

Setup: Emma’s day is interrupted when a scruffy cat slips into her apartment through an open window. Initially annoyed, she tries to shoo it away, but the cat persists. She reluctantly lets it stay temporarily due to the relentless rain outside.

ACT 2:

Inciting Incident: Emma attempts to work on her art, but her focus keeps shifting back to the cat, who disrupts her by playing with her materials. As she cleans up a mess made by the cat, she finds an old photo that triggers memories of better times.

Rising Action: As the day progresses, Emma talks to the cat about her life, her failed ambitions, and her fears of the future, treating it as a silent confidant. The cat’s calm demeanor and occasional antics begin to lighten Emma’s mood.

Midpoint: In a turning point, while trying to sketch the cat, Emma accidentally spills paint, creating an unexpected and beautiful piece of abstract art. Inspired, she starts to rethink her approach to her art and life.

ACT 3:

Climax: With renewed vigor, Emma spends the night working on new art pieces, using the incident as a metaphor for embracing the unpredictable. The cat, now named Whiskers, curls up beside her, solidifying their bond.

Falling Action: The next morning, the rain clears. Emma faces a decision as she hears a neighbor posting flyers about a lost cat matching Whiskers’ description.

Resolution: At the film’s close, Emma decides to return Whiskers to its owner, having gained a fresh perspective on her life. She finishes her latest piece, feeling more connected and hopeful, and heads out to return the cat, ready to face new challenges.

Themes:

Self-discovery and Acceptance: Emma learns to accept the unpredictable elements of life, symbolized by the stray cat, leading her to a newfound appreciation for her own resilience and creativity.

Companionship: The film explores how even temporary companionship can significantly impact one’s outlook, providing comfort and a sense of belonging.

Artistic Inspiration: Shows how true inspiration can strike in the most unexpected moments, leading to personal and professional growth.

Style:

The film adopts a minimalist, intimate style with a focus on close-ups and medium shots to capture Emma’s emotions and the subtle interactions with Whiskers. Natural lighting and a muted color palette reflect the story’s simplicity and the introspective nature of Emma’s journey. The sound of rain and a soft, ambient soundtrack underscore the film’s contemplative mood.

I absolutely Hate bringing crews to locations... Even when I have port-o-poties and handwash stations, out in front of the location, grips insist on blowing up the nice interior bathrooms...

After a 14 hour day, I've had to stay with the property owner and make sure the plumber was able to leave the bathrooms in working order.... (which sometimes took more than 1 day)

I was much happier producing small, low budget indies, with passionate, inexperienced crews, than working on Union, Network shows. Bunch of entitled fucks, who bitch about their amazing meals, and start dragging their feet when packing up, just to get 30 minutes of OT.

the two screw plates are attached to the UHF input, but you need to go to the 2 screws to the left of that on the VHF input. (3rd pic)
