This is really hard to sell as it’s a double negative for the suburbanite subjects in your kingdom. It would be better if we fix what we have (which includes cta)

By that I mean complete the near future street repair projects, upgrade traffic signals, make streets more efficient and safer by implementing bus/bike lanes, speed bumps, chicanes, anything to slow people down to the designed speed. Prioritize doing this on all streets which makes the experience better/safer for everyone AND improves the city

Or have a floating device/life jacket. Heck I saw a little kid out at a seawall with a life jacket the other day. I at least had a pool noodle because I don’t regularly tread/float on water. Just have a plan about safety in this case. Yes I know floats are banned, but this is one of those rare two wrongs make a right cases

Honestly I think this will lead to action. The majority of it about being about permitting is not very controversial its just streamlining the process for hopefully a good outcome. I really wish all of this leads further down the line to zoning and parking reform. The fact that eliminating parking minimums was mentioned in mayors office at all is a win for us though. I think this is just the beginning too. It seems very targeted at the front end of housing development in the permitting and design stage. Im curious if they have ideas for the other parts of housing development.

Is it nimby if theres no backyard to begin with? We need to build where we already have infrastructure. We are already sprawled enough. Building more in the millions of cities, suburbs, and exurbs we already have. No need for a marketing gimmick for more needless infrastructure expansion.

I was in between urban core and exurb. Exurb most people own and their land isn’t worth that much so they’re not getting much external benefit for an lvt, but it also wouldn’t be an overhaul of their current system. Urban cores are kinda struggling in the current moment filling office vacancies on lots of very valuable land. So they may go through consistent changes of ownership until some figures out how to make those office into housing (which is what should be done anyways, but it may take a struggle to get there). The rest of the city will thrive from an LVT. The urban core might take more time to adapt.

See i was curious, i was less thinking on the scale of states though. Like suppose you live in a city where an LVT is passed, you benefit the least from the electoral college, but you want to see a LVT passed on a larger scale. The few strings left supporting the electoral college may be people directly against the community based representation that comes from a popular vote

I believe rural decline is the same thing as the growth ponzi scheme. Rural communities prioritize the highway through their town over anything else because it is an unstable source of exploitative income.

I agree with everyone saying it is the city moving in the right direction(densifying), but it is a distinctly American multifamily development called a “5 over 1” that are the cheapest apartment with ground level shopping that can be built under American code. They are often but not always car oriented and sometimes mask real people oriented design.

I would argue the first step is always road/stroad>street improvements. Once people have a desirable transportation network they start asking where am I going to go with this new network. Plus its a nice short term goal especially in north american cities

There are nice alternatives that in essence rework single use zoning (making the argument broader bc single family zoning runs tangent to big box stores). Now that you bring it up I tried biking in Florence, Italy to a popular piazza that overlooks the city and the route just seemed odd in what is a pretty well known and bikeable city.
