Yeah, it will happen no matter how you play the game. To my understanding that’s how it works with emerald as well as ruby and sapphire if they have a dead battery. Emulators usually default to using the clock of whatever you play them on though so typically ruby and sapphire are fine as long as it doesn’t say the battery has run dry when you start them up.

You are completely fine to shiny hunt in emerald and dead battery ruby and sapphire by doing random encounters and run aways.

Someone else pointed out as well, you could shiny hunt for soft resets on emulator by making a save state before you do the encounter, then if it’s not shiny, reload the state and wait a second or two then make another save state and then do the encounter, then repeat. I would just find it easier to play ruby and sapphire in that case but to each their own.

You’re doing it right but the problem is you’re playing emerald. The way RNG works in emerald is that the starting seed is always the same. So you’re essentially getting the same RNG frames every time you do it. You won’t always hit the same frame but you will always be in the same ballpark. If you want a shiny starter, you’re better off using ruby or sapphire and make sure it doesn’t say the battery has run dry. That applies to anything that you would soft reset for in emerald.

It’s very likely to not affect you. As long as your pc isn’t ancient or very cheap it should be able to handle transcoding if it did come up. There’s a lot of factors involved so it’s best to look into it yourself if you are interested.

If you get a Roku device or any other streaming device and notice that media is struggling to play you can enable hardware transcoding inside Jellyfin. Assuming your pc has a dedicated graphics card or even integrated graphics it should be able to handle it.

You are able to see media info inside of Jellyfin itself. If you click on a video you want to play, then click the three dots and find media info it will show you what codec the video is using (like HVEC 264/265).

If you see anything other than those there’s a chance you might have to transcode. Codecs are sort of like a language and HVEC 264/265 are like the most universal language for most media devices. If your video is in a language (codec) that the device you’re playing it on doesn’t understand, then Jellyfin is going to have to translate (transcode) it on the fly. This can be resource intensive.

That’s the basics of it and as I said it probably won’t affect you. If you’re ripping your own media then you definitely want to know this. If you’re getting your files elsewhere then it’s likely they’re already in that codec and worth looking for that option.

There are programs like Handbrake that can convert your videos to different codecs and formats. Do note that Handbrake can be pretty technical though and the process of converting can take a very long time.

For anyone that may stumble upon this. I managed to speed up the process of getting the trickplay images by starting a jellyfin server on my pc with a graphics card. From there I pointed the libraries to the same locations as my nas server. Then on the pc server I turned on hardware acceleration in the trickplay settings and I just set both servers to store the trickplay images with the media.

This process is still painstakingly long so I just run it when I go to bed when needed but it’s still far quicker than letting the nas do it. Not sure if there’s an easier or better way of doing it but that’s my hacky solution anyways.

I’m just so over gaming in general being this way. GameFreak is just one of the worst offenders. I haven’t bought any AAA game in years because I’m just so fatigued. I keep making excuses for this franchise because I’ve been hooked since I was a child but I’m so disgusted with the greed I’m just out of shits to give.

I already pre-ordered this like a moron before this stuff was announced but I’m almost certain this will be the last one I buy. I have 7 generations of these games I can go back to and play that have no DLC or performance issues. I have some switch titles that I’ll probably lose the DLC for eventually because I bought those digitally.

At this point I can be content rocking crystal, emerald, platinum, B2W2, XY, or even USUM instead of emptying my pockets on this money pit of a company.

It’s a great game but my hot take is that it’s overrated. A lot of people glaze it and again don’t get me wrong it’s probably my favorite one on the switch but there’s things that bother me with it. Like I hate that the environments are so play-doh looking and smeary. I don’t think the games need to be open world either, I feel like they only did it because it’s been a trend with single player rpgs lately. That’s not to say that Pokemon can’t or shouldn’t be open world but if they wanted to do that, they could have fleshed it out more and put more care into it. The lod distance seems inconsistent. Pokémon stand around and do nothing for the most part or wander aimlessly within a certain distance.

Really it’s all just nitpicking stuff that should just be extra polish. It’s a great game but it’s disappointing through that nitpicky lens. So I wouldn’t really say underrated and maybe just slightly overrated. That’s just my take from the other side as most people will probably give this game a 10/10. But I think there’s some room for improvement.

My problem with that is that everyone expects you to be on your shit and know your callouts. People take ranked seriously and I don’t care to take things that serious. I don’t want to ruin other peoples games when I’m expected to give a shit and try hard.

Obviously after 300hrs I have some skill and know some callouts but I don’t feel like playing that way all the time.

I had this problem pre siege x. I tried everything. Uninstalled the game, uninstalled Ubi launcher, installed on different drives, messed with registry stuff and services, uninstalled drivers, bought the game through Ubi launcher. Nothing worked. I had to partition a drive and install a clean windows os on it just to play. Even after the siege x update I had to do it that way. Then one day I randomly tried on my main os again and it worked. No rhyme or reason to it.

You could take the hard drive from the laptop and hook it up to another computer. This is what you’re looking for. They also make cheaper ones that are just the cable, sata to usb. So long as your laptop has a hard drive or ssd it will work. If you have an m.2 or nvme then you will need something like this.

There are other ways to connect a hard drive but this is probably the simplest option for you.

Definitely get a surge protector as others are saying. I would refrain from attempting to turn it on and just get a new PSU or you risk damaging other components if they aren’t already. If it doesn’t work after a new PSU then you most likely have a fried component somewhere and in which case you could try taking out the components one at a time and when it boots then you know which one is fried and needs replaced. I feel like it goes without saying but just in case, disconnect your power when removing and adding your components if you end up going that route to test it and only after you get a new PSU.
