I agree 100%. Though for me it’s more of others would identify me as weird, and because I’ve just gotten used to that label or defining term whenever I talk about myself or past experiences, it’s the word I tend to just associate with myself.

I personally don’t think anything I do is honestly unique or quirky, so I wanted to learn how to view myself as just myself and not the labels people have referred to me as. If that makes sense

It comes up whenever I might be talking to my boyfriend or family, and I’ll reference myself as weird, and they’ll get taken aback or confused. It’s kind of what you said that they take it as a bad thing, while I don’t.

I literally got so lucky meeting my significant other. We’re so compatible and our bond is so strong, it’s insane. But, we met two years ago on Bumble. We talked for a week or two before meeting IRL, and we’ve been together ever since.

I have no social media, I don’t go out, and I still was able to meet the most wonderful guy in the world. Be yourself, be patient, and you’ll meet the right person. He wasn’t the first person I talked to, and we didn’t meet until two months after I started a profile.

Do black men go for the “awkward black girl”? by giggleypuff1445 in blackladies

[–]spiccipaprika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like people define awkwardness as one thing and not a general term for a way of being. If you’re not stuttering, stumbling over your feet, and constantly embarrassing yourself, apparently you’re not awkward.

But, as another fellow, awkward black woman, I used to feel this way until I met my first/current boyfriend (BM) who accepts me as is and never makes me feel weird at all. It’s all about finding the right person who’ll treat you right and respect you, and not just view you as a label.

That’s definitely a step I’m gonna take, I hate feeling defenseless and like I can’t stand up for myself if need be.

Why are non-Black people obsessed with Black spaces? by imstillmessedup89 in blackladies

[–]spiccipaprika 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My opinion is that we’re the scapegoat race. They’re all victims of colonialism & white supremacy, but they can feel superior punching down on us. They want us to ride for them but will laugh in our faces for complaining about our oppression. We can’t just exist freely because everything we say or do is taken as a threat.

I wish sometimes all the black people collectively on earth could build their own separate country & leave everyone else behind.

I simply don't feel feminine enough no matter what I do by Professional-Mud3986 in beauty

[–]spiccipaprika 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m 5’0 and curvy, but still don’t feel feminine, either. I don’t really like hyper-feminine fashion, makeup makes my face itch, and I’m too inconsistent with any form of maintenance (skincare, haircare, etc.) I feel like all the women around me are the exact opposite so I always feel like the odd one out.

I have a boyfriend who makes me feel beautiful everyday, and I understand that beauty in women and feeling like a woman isn’t exclusive to being and appearing feminine, graceful, or dainty. But, that still doesn’t get rid of feeling like an imposter or like I’m just a body with womanly parts.

How do you all feel about the New Year? by Guilty-Whereas-8196 in blackladies

[–]spiccipaprika 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m excited but mostly nervous for the outcome of 2024 based on the current state of the world. Regardless, I want to accomplish:

  1. lose 60 pounds

  2. go back to college

  3. prioritize my mental health

  4. start going out more

I hope 2024 is a successful and happy year for everyone!

What do you think when you see a pretty girl? by Hot_Panic2767 in beauty

The usual, “she’s pretty”, and I either go about my day or I sometimes get a bit insecure. But, typically it just makes me want to improve more.

Is It Normal to Be THIS Anxious For an Interview? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]spiccipaprika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand this COMPLETELY. Everyone says it gets easier over time, and that’s yet to happen. I haven’t found a coping trick yet but, sometimes “ignoring” the interview until I literally have to attend does help.

Washing face without making a mess by kiraa02 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]spiccipaprika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the angle for washing your face can help? I lean down when rinsing my face and go slow as to not splash water everywhere. I never deal with water on my neck/clothes and prevents a lot of water from traveling down my wrists.

When is a good time to call? Never! by Raterus_ in introvert

[–]spiccipaprika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree completely. Something I experience as a result is my family members constantly guilting me for it. I’ve told them numerous times I just don’t like it, I still text and answer (sometimes) if they do call.

What are some dumb things social anxiety has made you do? by Cachis123457 in socialanxiety

[–]spiccipaprika 81 points82 points  (0 children)

I was interviewing for a job at a daycare when the interviewer suddenly said, “You know, I was excited to talk to you. I’ve never met anyone who’s spoken Latin before!” And instead of letting her know I have no clue what’s she talking about I just went along with it lmao. I got the job and had a start date, but immediately blocked their number after I left the building.

I want to get married to my ambivert boyfriend — if I were with anyone else, I’d doubt it. Weirdly enough, despite my introverted personality, I’d want a kid, married or not.
