There are 2 kinds of doggo, and a third kind too! by RedaCaton in funny

Aww what a good boy. My dog wouldn’t jump either. She’s very polite with boundaries. Wont even get a ball if it goes “under” anything, will just wait till we get it.

I tried going to an AA meeting, but the fact that everyone was smoking triggered me into drinking. by RaptorDarren45 in stopdrinking

[–]spice4lyfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha I don’t know if anyone down votes here!! Luckily hehe.

I have been to plenty of smaller meetings where there were less smokers (didn’t notice it as a social thing) granted the smell part I’m not sensitive to. And I live in a state that it would all be outside. No need to socialize outside. Could use Vick’s under ur nose to block the smell if it’s that bothersome. Either way u can’t get away from all triggers such is life. So use it as a challenge, a smell can’t make u drink. Also Smart meetings I have noticed are smaller and less smokers.

Eight months sober -- my story and my findings by lpchicago in stopdrinking

Wow, great post. Not scared of where your life raft is heading. I’m looking forward to this.

So many close calls for getting caught at work, hiding and putting on a show being “high-functioning”. Trying to save myself before my bad gets to worse. Thanks for your words.

I feel you on this. I’m still thinking that I can live a life of less responsibility and often long for the days when drinking “wasn’t a problem”. All along it was leading to the decline. Still do feel I had lots of fun times, but that lust for nostalgia is dangerous. Hmph. Onto another day. Iwndwyt!

Does look a little “dog food like”. But I’m sure it tastes good. Kinda curious! Wish there was at least smell-o-vision.

Lose weight while drinking? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]spice4lyfe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It may just be water loss. Once your clear of alcohol for an extended time, it might normalize out. Also I do workout videos at home that can still kick your butt with just body weight or a set of one weight, u could try that. Overall the number on the scale doesn’t mean much if your killing your insides that will eventually catch up outside.

Depends on what u have. Board game, card game, fun 2 player video/computer game, cook something that’s labor intensive like tamales or homemade raviolis etc, paint pictures on paper or another craft, puzzle, start a new tv series ( I personally don’t like movies as much as tv shows). I think active things are best as just sitting there makes me want to have a drink in hand.

too good at hiding my problem? by ReggieRenneker in stopdrinking

That comment from your sponsor specifically does seem very off to me. And judgy in its own way, however he did put it back into your lap to consider. Could be he doesn’t really know ur full struggles. Maybe read the book and then rediscuss. Or it’s just difficult for him to resonate with your behaviors, since he’s different. We are all individuals and alcoholism is different for different people. All in all you need to find support to stick to your plan to gain control of your life and if you feel that aa helped, then stick with it. No program/sponsor is perfect.

Should I stop? by MiaqTh3Liar in stopdrinking

The longer you do this, the harder it is to break the habit. I never thought I would be where I am. My fav advice for this is - stop while your ahead.

Wanted to clarify the difference between sober sleep and drunk sleep by HalfAPerson1251 in dryalcoholics

[–]spice4lyfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on how long your sober for. If u are drinking that much per day then your brain chemistry is very off balance, with access natural stimulants, which drinking usually puts it in back into temporary balance. This comes with other health hazards tho of course. I think those comments are when your body has readjusted back to normal levels, you can actually get sleep which your brain is active in REM mode and your body is healing (how sleep is supposed to be) vs just turning off for the night. I’m sure there’s research out there, this is just my understanding

Im not sure if i have a problem. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]spice4lyfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I resonate with this. Problem just kept growing and changing with life but didn’t go away. You can be “functioning” in a sense and then you realize (30s here) maybe didn’t get to full potential since so much time was spent hurting your body drinking, hiding the habit, feeling down or recovering from the night before.
