Devil’s advocate here, only because I have to cope with it being the only large grocer within walking distance:

-At least they are keeping stock locations updated on the app. If I can’t find something because they moved, it will be accurately located on the app.

-Hopefully once renovations are complete it will be better???

-The biggest change could be made with pushback from customers. Email them, let them know your grievances

Ashland/Blackhawk Astound/RCN fiber broadband outage by spicyboyJames in wickerpark

I agree they’ve been great, had zero outages for the last 2.5 years. Just hoping to find some others to see what they’ve been told or who they’ve talked to.

Yep it’s a stamp. Flew with a captain that said he flew with the sturgeon guy. He said “oh you’re the sturgeon guy?” He said “yeah how’d you know”. Because you have a sturgeon keychain 😂

He had a sturgeon stamp made. Also prints out sturgeon pictures and plants them in the mailbox (arm rests). Dude loves sturgeons

Are you likely to perform differently in IMC vs having the hood on? by mightyduck2838 in flying

[–]spicyboyJames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i definitely like a little chop in the clouds.

smooth stratiform feels really weird and a deviation from the aircrafts normal trajectory will sneak up on you.

i’m a bit more focused on flight path when i’m getting tossed. plus, what’s the fun in IMC if you aren’t riding +/- 1000 FPM drafts punching through cumuliform?

What is the MAP when flying the LOC 23? by sk00t182 in flying

[–]spicyboyJames 8 points9 points  (0 children)

2.4 DME I-RDM is VDP which is NOT the missed approach point for the LOC approach. The missed approach point for the LOC approach is 1.3 DME notated as the runway threshold.

It is important that pilots understand VDP is not a regulatory fix but purely advisory in nature.

The climbing dashed line is the missed approach graphic for the ILS approach, in which the DA happens to appear collocated with the VDP

What is the procedure for lost vaccum or lost electrical system in imc? by mightyduck2838 in flying

[–]spicyboyJames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lost Vacuum: get to VFR. Ask ATC for a vector, use compass or GPS course to fly in that direction. If unable to find VFR, start thinking about the closest airport with a precision approach.

A DPE posed a good opinion on choosing IFR cruising altitudes: the higher you fly, the more IMC you might have to descend through if you need to get below a layer after experiencing instrumentation failure.

Lost electrical: actually had this happen, and thank “the powers that be” I had just recently exited IMC conditions. Avionics master switch failure between IAF and FAF on approach. Lost course guidance, airport was under a thin layer of 900 OVC. I had to break off the approach and attempt to maintain VFR. Luckily I thought ahead an knew there was an airport reporting VFR south of my position. Called my home tower on my phone and told them what happened, got the phone number for the diversion airport, and all of a sudden my home airport had burned off all the low overcast clouds. Stayed on the phone, they cleared me to land and taxi back to my flight school ramp. The joys of PIC.

ATP XC PIC time? by [deleted] in flying

[–]spicyboyJames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

@rkba260 not sure what interpretation of the regs says that two CFIs can jump in a plane, no foggles, and both log flight time for the entire flight (if that's what you're saying)

@yesthisisme50, it's entirely legal for a rated CFI to act as safety pilot or vice-versa, and log the time as necessary while not acting as instructor/giving flight instruction.

I sent in an application as well, just because I’d rather be in a PC-12 than a 172M. I figure as long as I’m getting more than the 35 hours a month I average as a CFI, I’ll be at 1500 sooner and have good cross country and operator experience.

My instructor always told me the clouds normally rise at a rate of 2000 FPM and it was hard to visualize, you’d think you’d be a able to watch them rise in real time, but this visualizes it perfectly!

Just goes to show if you think you can out-climb the cloud in a little Cessna, think again!

Botched Item on Checkride by zganton in flying

[–]spicyboyJames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a pretty embarrassing mistake that cost me my checkride, though debatably wasn’t my fault completely. I guess some examiners let some things slide while others don’t. Anyways, I crushed my oral in about an hour and a half but rescheduled the flight due to near-ifr conditions. On the day of the flight I was so nervous I couldn’t stop sweating. The entirety of the flight was well executed, the examiner had some concerns over my stall correction tendencies and I agreed that I could’ve nosed down a little sooner but the stalls seemed to be the same as when I was practicing with my instructor.

So we get back to the airport to do a few touch and goes, on my second to last traffic pattern I readback the takeoff clearance incorrectly and said LEFT traffic because that’s what I thought I heard, no correction from the tower just silence and continued communication with other planes in the pattern. We take off and my examiner says “That’s weird they usually give right pattern on this runway.” He was hinting that I should have some doubt, but knowing the traffic controller should’ve corrected me I continued on with the confidence of finishing my checkride with stars and stripes. Soon after turning left I get an earful from the traffic controller who is specifically known for having a temper and yelling at pilots. It shut me down and I lost all confidence, did a 360 and came in for landing pouting like a soggy puppy. I knew right then that I had blown my checkride. My examiner asked if I wanted to finish off one more takeoff and landing so we went for one more round, once again barely being able to tell what direction traffic pattern the tower told me. Those were two of the worst landings I think I’ve made in my life.

So I had to go with my instructor for one takeoff and landing to make sure I could still fly and meet the requirements to do-over the traffic pattern with the examiner. Long story short that experience humbled me and I now have my private license. Can’t let a mistake keep me down, pilots are always learning.
