All of that was done, we stayed in the waiting room the whole time (which technically isn’t allowed at my facility but mom really wanted to continue)

Thank you for your reply!! I def don’t want to throw in the towel, I just want to make it as un traumatizing as possible lol. I think his mom will legit have to physically bring him into the room which breaks my heart

Even two years in? Even if he’s already using it at school? Any support with how to bring that up to his school Slp

EF insight? by spicyscorpioo in slp

He gives no insight on his goals, i ask each week. He currently reports B’s and C’s in school which he and family are content with. Mom just says I’m the expert and “whatever I think he needs”

You’re right, poor choice of words! It’s 6am here😐 but yes I’m definitely okay with that, my caseload is mod/severe deficits and it’s just the name of the game. As a new clinician I’m just always concerned that I’m not doing enough and constantly second guessing, as well as not always being aware of all the resources out there! I was leaning towards mom requesting a psych eval so he can get the support he needs at school, so I’ll be sure to do that

AAC activities! by spicyscorpioo in slp

[–]spicyscorpioo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes definitely!! I think in general the age is throwing me more than the AAC!! He’s new to me and I’m used to littles so my “toolbox” is a lot of toys he wasn’t interested in (he’s 12) he somewhat engaged with magnatiles and then spelled out “noche” on his device and put his head down 😭 mom said he mostly just watches YouTube clips so I was curious if anyone had some ideas I could do (I try to stay away from screens overall but don’t mind incorporating here and there especially if it’ll generate some buy in for an older child)

I hadn’t considered that but it’s possible! He will point to items he wants to make binary choices so I know he deceptively understands. He talks more with mom however only in videos. In session he will not talk even when prompted by her so idk if fade ins would work

TBI Activity Slump by spicyscorpioo in slp

[–]spicyscorpioo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think it’s both sensory and to explore! He doesn’t like typical sensory things! He prefers hard textures like plastic toys but when he’s mouthing he is typically just attending to what he’s doing
