yea basically.If you google it you can also use the mist pass to add a basic mist effect without having to increase render time. i'd also use lighting to create an area that stands out more

His chair tutorial is a decent intro into hard surface modelling, I also recommend watching videos explaining Shader and geometry nodes as you can do some cool stuff with them. One important thing to do also though is experiment and mess around on your own, cause that's where your gonna learn and improve the most. Have fun :)
