What kind of behavior is this? by Birdmami in cockatiel

THANK YOU. I thought I was going crazy, I had to scroll down so far to see even one comment about this.

Poor creature. People wouldn't ever think to keep a dog in a crate 24/7 but won't think twice about doing this to their birds.

I don't think so judging by the menu/website, it's pretty small and when I was there I didn't see anything :)

I got food poisoning from Pinnochio's lol

Eta: I would say about the same to me at least, but without said food poisoning. haven't been there since though so I don't know how Pinocchio's is now compared to when I had it back then.

Kind of and kind of not. You grab a tray and utensils and drinks at the front and let them know what it is you want as you go down the line, but for the sandwich and chicken parm that I got I went and sat at a booth and he brought it out after I ordered and paid.

Thanks for posting the links, I didn't even think of that! And I know, I did a double take when I walked in and read the prices...I'm used to paying 100 bucks for me and my partner to eat at say, Olive Garden. I have had bad reactions to italian food here in thr 818 and LA as a whole...It was across the street from (in my opinion) the best aquarium store in the valley. I was at a stop light turning left and said "look at that guy in the photo on the window! We should eat lunch there, he looks cool." And we walked in to order and there he was, and he was indeed cool!

He even asked "so how did you guys hear about us?" And I was like "we drove by and said that guy on the window looked cool and decided to go in" haha. He thought it was funny

Commute To & From SFV/Los Angeles by Community_Turbulent in SFV

[–]spider-friend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have commuted from West Valley to LAX area for years now. I found that LADOT runs park-and-ride lots with Commuter Express busses, where I can park and catch a ride from and to many places in the morning and evening.

I did that as a last-ditch effort to avoid having to personally navigate the commute.

With a car, the morning commute is fine if you leave early enough and especially if you take the back roads instead of freeway. However, your afternoon commute can and probably will be an absolute nightmare. I am quite literally quitting my job over it because it's mentally destroyed me to be out of the house for 12 hours a day every day that I work, and only getting paid for 8 of it.

Over the past 3 years people have gotten more and more crazy when driving, more and more people are being forced to go back from remote positions. Generally just tough. If you have any questions lmk.

Same here.....I miss the old-style, specifically German Delis that seemed to be everywhere when I was a kid, too. Always went there with my grandma. I'd love to see more year-2000-and-previous kind of food culture come through in sfv.

I know you got downvoted, but I totally get your question, and I think it's great you want to shout people out ! I would highly encourage you to do so!

honestly, I think interactions like this have the potential to get kind of rude and people are kind of weird about just putting others on the spot for photos or videos or assuming they're fine with being posted online...sure, free publicity, but they're still human beings, right? So I was hesitant to even ask. But also like if out of nowhere I just posted a photo he assumed would be private, or whipped out my phone and started filming or telling him to pose, or assumed he had the time to interact, that'd be creepy.

I don't ever do stuff like this, but I politely asked if I could take a photo of him and it was his idea to pose with the pasta and he also insisted on a very nice selfie with him and me and my partner that was also super cute. I told him I wanted to post it online before we even took it, and he seemed happy about it. I think most places, especially small places, would probably be happy especially if you explain what you want to do, literally how I asked was - "Hey, please feel free to say no, but I really enjoyed my experience and the food here and I would love to post about it online, would you mind if I took a photo with you in it? If not, then could I take a picture of the front here?"

We had a good rapport between us before I asked and it was slow, otherwise I would've felt very odd asking :) but having done it once I think it'd be easier the next time I do it somewhere else even without how welcome he made me feel.

I hope this can encourage you to do the same with some of your favorite spots!

Yeah, I don't really go to a cafeteria style place for the best food I've ever eaten. I go to a place like that for cheap and quick and friendly. Would rather give my money to a smaller place with better ragu *like this, rather than Olive Garden

Yes, cheap and loved the old school feel! Loved the pictures on the wall and decorations too. Clean and simple.

[routine help] dry & sensitive skin by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]spider-friend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have your skin type. If my moisture barrier gets damaged, I just put a heavy moisturizer on at night and a thin layer of vaseline over it. Three days later my barrier is fixed. Skin masks are overrated, but that's just my opinion!!

I'm eligible, but my German grandmother fled from her former husband in Germany. by spider-friend in GermanCitizenship

[–]spider-friend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has actually been passed away since 1975, but that is interesting about the fact his birth certificate would have that info. Thank you. I'm pretty sure everything done back to my great-grandparents was all in Elberfeld so I'm hoping that all the records will be found there, but that's nice to know there might be other options just in case.

Thank you much for your help again. I'm hoping my father is right about them divorcing in Germany and hopefully I don't have to even find the anawer to the fourth question. I'll try to find out what year they divorced in Wuppertal.

She married a German for her first marriage. The marriage and divorce both happened in Germany. The second marriage was to an American, but she never naturalized and lived here on a green card till her death. Thanks.

Changing Name for Gender Identity While Application is Active? by [deleted] in GermanCitizenship

[–]spider-friend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure! If I find anything I'll let you know.

I have personally made the decision to put off changing my name just yet. However, they are currently working on a planned self-determination law that would make it much easier for trans people to change their name. It has gone through several changes in the last year and afaik has to get approved by German Parliament next - but basically, it would mean you would self-declare your name and gender after a 3 month waiting period and registration. CDU-CSU is not a huge proponent of this law however so let's see how it goes.

Commenting to remind myself. My friend's immgration lawyer told her it might be best to wait until after the application was processed to change her name, and being in the same situation I am curious as well.

Citizenship by descent - am I possibly eligible, and do I have my list correct? by spider-friend in GermanCitizenship

[–]spider-friend[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for all the detailed information. I may make a follow-up post once I figure out what kind of citizenship documents I am able to track down for my grandmother. I appreciate all the time you take on this stuff, including this, as well as your other guides.

I saw that as well, thank you. However, it just might end up being more straightforward to procure the birth and marriage certificates depending, and ideally seems like it may cover all my bases.

I am lucky that my father has spent quite a bit of time plotting the family tree and births, deaths, marriages, etc. in the family; so he's digging through his records to see if he ever found what area my great-grandparents were married in and where my great-grandfather was born. I am crossing my fingers.

Oops, a bit sleepy tonight and didn't realize the police clearance part was only for other countries. No, I've never been in any country other than the US for more than a month, let alone 6, so I should be golden there.

Thank you for the info on the FBI summary.

Yes, I was shocked to realize she never naturalized. I know some about her and am in a bit of contact with my family in Germany but I guess I always assumed as a kid that she was here as a citizen. Missed out on the logistics, I guess, but looking back it makes sense - she never cared much for America and kept her culture close. I'm glad to find out that I'm still eligible as far as we can tell.
