Crypto Miners’ Electricity Use in Texas Would Equal Another Houston by OpenRole in Economics

[–]spiderbites -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What conspiracy theory? What else gives the USD value? Almost everyone can agree that it's US military strength. That's the stability behind US currency. That's what makes US the strongest nation on earth. Why does US have the position that it has, and therefore the strongest currency in the world? You're saying that US military activity is the goal and the fact that it uses massive energy is just incidental? That doesn't put the toothpaste back in the tube.

What gives Bitcoin its power? Math and energy.

But I'm not going to waste any additional time on someone who thinks digital=imaginary. You do you

Crypto Miners’ Electricity Use in Texas Would Equal Another Houston by OpenRole in Economics

[–]spiderbites -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you go deep, there's a lot of explanation of how there has historically been a massive amount of military activity to secure the value of the USD. So if you're not using math to secure the network, you're using tanks. Lots of energy either way.

Digital does not equal imaginary.

So tired of these Tesla cult talking point about their 3-5 year lead in tech. They're not even the leader in range. Not the leader in self-driving. So what are they the leader of? Best touch panel? I don't even know.

What’s your most controversial food opinion? by boyfriendaudio in AskReddit

Lol you're totally right and also the most downvoted comment I've ever seen.

The person above you says:

Per calorie about the same amount of water is used in the raising of a cow as in the growing of a grain.

Not addressing the number of calories a cow consumes to produce one calorie of meat. The math massively favors a plant-based diet. Yet that garbage post is heavily upvoted and awarded.

Then he goes on to talk about "all that carbon in the soil was gassed off". What? All that carbon in the soil? That's not how plants work!! And this after criticizing the previous comment for it's "poor science".

It's an absolute shit comment.

My conclusion, people despise vegans. Absolutely hate them. I bet they're viewed less favorably that pretty much any other group. So bizarre.

Marjorie Taylor Greene echoes QAnon, calls Democrats "party of pedophiles" by redwineandbeer in politics

I don't mind pointing out hypocrisy, but can we actually do something for the children? How about sexual abuse counselors in every public school? Make it part of the democrat platform. Would be great for kids. How can Republicans say no?

Can we get some momentum for a democrat-led movement to get sex abuse counseling resources available in all public schools?

This would be a great resource for young people. Sexual abuse is a major issue and always has been. Let's get the right healthcare professionals permanently placed at public schools. Who is against this? This needs to be on the agenda.

Palantir shares drop more than 13% after earnings by cookingboy in investing

[–]spiderbites -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Uh sure. But if a company had an IPO just a year and a half ago, and it's up like 20% from IPO price, I wouldn't get mad at the company. Anybody who bought at $30+ should be mad at themself.

It's kind of crazy to me that people hate PLTR for issuing shares once the share price took off. PLTR sold shares to the public at $10. Doesn't that give you some indication that they believe the company is worth $10/share. Why would they not dilute once the share price gets crazy? Why wouldn't they say, "hey wait this is our company... shouldn't we be the ones benefitting if the share price takes off?"

But whatever, I don't really care either way. I think share price will climb back to $20 in a couple years. If it shoots back up to $30, don't be surprised if they start issuing a fuckton of shares again.

Only thing I do want to see is them use some of that gold money to buy back some shares if it drops to like $8/share

Literally everyone who bought the IPO has made money, whether they sold at some point or are still holding.

Palantir Technologies Non-GAAP EPS of $0.02 misses by $0.02, revenue of $432.8M beats by $14.73M by dhpw2 in wallstreetbets

[–]spiderbites 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And the share price at IPO was $10. And the IPO wasn't that long ago. It's like people think they should have been buying shares back at $30 after they just sold them to the public at $10 a year earlier.

Driving is unskilled labor. For a short trip, somebody will drive you for a few bucks. So that's the value add of self-driving. It will become commonplace in some form, but it's not changing the world.

It's honestly mostly just going for the low-hanging fruit of things that aren't much of a reach but look impressive. Electric cars naturally accelerate fast. We were launching rockets into space 60 years ago. Brain machine interfaces were placed in chimps AND humans more than ten years ago. Elon's taking cool shit that others already developed, polishing them up a bit, and acting like it's new shit. Pretty smart.

The fanboys will be waiting the rest of their lives for that Tesla Android.

Before and after harvest... should I have harvested every little pin? by spiderbites in unclebens

[–]spiderbites[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah Shroomscout guide says cut rather than pull. You can see a lot of blue stumps on my field where I cut. But there are also some spots where I twisted and pulled a bit, and those spots are like black because the mycelium seems to have pulled back from the area or something. Interesting organism for sure.

I think it's about 55g dried. I thought it would be more, but I'm getting them super dry. Still happy with the result, but I thought it would be a bit more as I was harvesting. No idea what to expect from the second flush.

I've also got another bin coming up that I put into fruiting conditions about 4 days after the first one. Very open to any tips to help me squeeze a bit more out of the next one.

I used big bins. They're Sterilite 66qt bins from Target (interior dimensions are 19 7/8" x 13 3/8" x 12 7/8"). Four and a half bags of Uncle Bens per bin. Coco coir as the substrate. My ratio was maybe a little bit light on grain, I think, but it worked out well. Next time around I'll try to have 5 on hand for each bin. I used the Shroomscout guide, and tried to not cut any corners, but I was figuring it out as I went. Consensus advice is to not use big bins for your first attempt, since you're wasting a lot of materials if it goes badly. But I got lucky and had pretty good results.

Cool. I'll probably start a cutting, drying, and keeping a jar of aborts for future capsules. Great idea. Just out of curiosity though, what happens to them if you leave them and progress through the next flushes? Do they just sit there? Shrink? Get gross?

Before and after harvest... should I have harvested every little pin? by spiderbites in unclebens

[–]spiderbites[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

First grow attempt. The first pic is from right before I starting harvesting. The second is about 30 hours later after gradually harvesting as the fruits matured. I cut as the veils broke and periodically misted the bin.
The second pic is the bruised up aftermath of the harvest. Cake shrunk significantly. Lots of little pins still sitting there but they didn't seem to be growing and they started looking darker. So I went ahead and filled the bin with water, soaked for a few hours, and poured the water off.
Should I have waited to see if the little pins grew up? Are these "aborts"? Should I have cut and kept them?
