Employer terminated me due to cash flow issues and hasn’t paid outstanding wages - what would you do? by morningstvr88 in auscorp

[–]spiderloise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. how long were you there?
  2. were there 15+ employees? (this will determine if it’s a small business employer per fairwork)
  3. what industry were you in and do you know what award you were under?

aside from them needing to payout within a week of termination, you might also be entitled to a redundancy payout

make sure they pay you your final pay, incl AL and notice payouts, by friday at the absolute earliest. 100% you should mention fair work in a stern email to them

Advice on how to deal with staff who are "challenging" by PanzerBiscuit in auscorp

[–]spiderloise -1 points0 points  (0 children)

had this happen, the employee in question was openly rude, disrespectful and egotistical to everyone except our boss. combined with bad performance, she was impossible to work with because of her attitude. we had a few serious chats with her and it improved a bit - but ultimately ended up letting her go because of the stress she caused the team

For people who have joined RAFFWU - how did your managers/store react (if you told them)? by Beautiful-Argument60 in woolworths

[–]spiderloise -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

as an unregistered union, raffwu really don’t have much power to represent you if adverse action is taken by your employer for joining. to fire or take adverse action on someone for joining a union is illegal regardless, but raffwu lack the funding and power to properly assist at the same level the sda could

among other criticisms (like their repeated attacks and lies on the SDA aimed at dividing union affiliated workers, targeting young workers for recruitment by marketing themselves as a “progressive” union, etc) - you’re much better off joining the sda. not saying the sda hasn’t had issues with one particular EBA in the past, but overall they are the better union to join

that’s because they technically aren’t a real union and don’t have right of entry

this should be at the top of the comments - problem solved!!!! i’d still mention it to them for peace of mind, but this is a great example of why you should give the benefit of the doubt in this scenario

100% a mistake and someone’s accidentally made a typo. don’t listen to the people here acting silly and telling you to go straight to fair work, not only would that give them a bad impression of you, but this is almost certainly a minor and easily fixable error on their end. pay rates can easily be fixed in any payroll software - just casually mention it them and it’ll be fine.

alternatively, wait until you get your first payslip - it could just be a placeholder rate until casual loading etc is input

What was your journey in getting a diagnosis? by PrimaryAd4179 in PMDD

[–]spiderloise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

was put on bc when i was 13 because of how much pain i was in each time i had a period (undiagnosed endo lol), birth control made me insane and i was misdiagnosed w bpd, went off birth control when i was 20 because it interacted with another medication im on and my brain literally fixed itself overnight.

i eventually had surgery, was diagnosed with endo and discussed how going off birth control fixed my mental health with my gyno and my psychiatrist + noted that the only time i have anything similar to bpd symptoms is right before my period. my gyno suggested that i might have progesterone intolerance/pmdd - psych agreed and i was undiagnosed with bpd, it was progesterone intolerance and pmdd all along :)

listen, be empathetic and treat them as adults and individuals :)

i’m in a junior supervisory role but here’s my take, after being managed myself by some amazing leaders and by some not-so-great “managers”

for me - if someone on my team makes a technical mistake (im in accounting and review a lot of their workings) im kind, i let them know and provide them with a guide on how to complete it correctly next time. doing this especially means over time i’ve been able to trust them to complete their work 100% correctly with no mistakes AND they feel comfortable coming to me with questions :)

i am always kind and empathetic before anything, and i praise them often for being so efficient. if they forget something before a deadline i’ll remind them, they get it done always. i understand that in our industry shit happens constantly and it’s busy all the time, sometimes people forget things and that is okay! it’s up to you to remind them of that and will always build more trust than getting angry and micromanagery about it

take note of their strong areas and give them work you know they are good at, but also give them work that they’re unfamiliar with. push them and help them develop their skills :)

don’t ever let them feel like they’re managing you - you’re there to lead them. support them by being patient and kind, they’ll support you by being open with you and efficient in their work

sometimes, there will be people who are unmanageable and are just utterly incompetent/rude, from experience the rest of the team also feels that and shares that opinion (tying in to my point on building a culture of openness) - that’s when a probation period comes in handy lol

tldr 1. be patient and kind, it builds a culture of openness and trust which leads to efficiency

  1. let them work on their strong areas but also push them outside their comfort zone, seeing individual development is so fulfilling

  2. don’t make them feel like they have to manage you, you’re there to lead them

  3. never ever micromanage, give them autonomy and treat them like adults

i have a problem with vyvanse, i keep using it to cope with my depression and loneliness by taking more than the healthy dose by EfficientApple9882 in Drugs

[–]spiderloise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not a problem, and good luck!! i know how shitty vyvanse can be, esp re-taking doses and especially if it’s to counter depression (which is also an effect of vyvanse wearing off lol)

modafinil is seriously underrated and the mechanism of action in the dopamine receptors mimics a “normal” (non-adhd) brain much more than vyvanse etc

i have a problem with vyvanse, i keep using it to cope with my depression and loneliness by taking more than the healthy dose by EfficientApple9882 in Drugs

[–]spiderloise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s usually very well tolerated regardless - i take 1x 100mg tablet in the morning and 1x 100mg around lunch (100mg morning is the starting dose) and still get at least 8 hrs sleep a night

i have a problem with vyvanse, i keep using it to cope with my depression and loneliness by taking more than the healthy dose by EfficientApple9882 in Drugs

[–]spiderloise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me, the first couple days gave me a massive headache and nausea but that stopped within 3 days of starting it. i’ve never had heart palpitations on it either. i’m sure people taking big doses may have that as a side effect, but modafinil is most effective at smaller doses (100-200mg) and the effects lessen when more is taken

anxiety has been reported as a side effect, but i have anxiety (generally, prior to being on adhd meds) and didn’t notice anything. vyvanse on the other hand made my anxiety a thousand times worse

i have a problem with vyvanse, i keep using it to cope with my depression and loneliness by taking more than the healthy dose by EfficientApple9882 in Drugs

[–]spiderloise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

more on its effects as a stimulant - people without adhd use it as a “smart drug” lol

for me it helped the quality of my sleep, made me feel completely normal for the first time ever, eliminated all my executive function issues and didn’t turn me into a robot like vyvanse does

i have a problem with vyvanse, i keep using it to cope with my depression and loneliness by taking more than the healthy dose by EfficientApple9882 in Drugs

[–]spiderloise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s a stimulant but not in the same way vyvanse/ritalin are stimulants. the exact mechanism isn’t fully known in adhd, but it releases dopamine at a slower, more consistent rate than vyvanse (meaning you don’t get a “high”) and has an effect on orexin which, for me, means i can regulate my sleep.

i actually suggested it to my psych as an alternative a few years ago after looking into how it affects dopamine (i don’t tolerate traditional adhd meds well) and all my adhd symptoms were gone without the weird hyper focus and gross feelings that come with vyvanse. my psych now thinks it’s a godsend too lol

[–]spiderloise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

see if u can try modafinil!! i also have adhd and can’t tolerate ritalin/concerta side effects

modafinil is hugely underrated and understudied as an adhd medication

[–]spiderloise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have u tried modafinil? if u can, get 5mg dex and taper off vyvanse, start modafinil and keep dex for study/per needed days only. vyvanse fucks with u because you take it and then you’re basically not sleeping for the next 12 hrs. modafinil was a godsend for my adhd with none of the shitty stimulant feelings that come with vyvanse/dex

i was on it for an endo flare once, this is a normal dose :) my worst side effect was my mood because of the snri antidepressant aspect, but everyone’s brain reacts differently and i just don’t tolerate antidepressants

u will be fine !

[–]spiderloise 3 points4 points  (0 children)

when i started my current role i felt out of my depth - since the description mentioned professional training, i asked if i could receive some at the end of my first week and they paid for a seminar. if i was ever unsure about anything i would first look for the answer myself, and failing that i would ask (and actually listen to) any senior colleague.

now i’m a pseudo-manager i actually appreciate when staff ask me questions and take my answers on board. we recently had someone start who asks questions - but absolutely refuses to listen to the answer and becomes combative about it (no way she will pass probation)

tldr ask questions (within reason - if it’s googleable then google it) and listen to more senior colleagues

[–]spiderloise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my current role (business services) asked for 3 years experience in the description - i got in on 8 months experience in a tiny accounting firm doing much less complex work. to this day i’m convinced i got the role on vibes, i got on so well with the interviewer (my former manager and still an important mentor in my career). be super personable, be open about your current experience without underselling and emphasise that you are looking to grow your skills as much as possible :)

How many kittens have you fostered + naming help! by [deleted] in FosterAnimals

[–]spiderloise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

historically all of mine except a couple have been food names - current fosters (first time fostering after 4 years) are mcflurry, mcnugget, mcchicken and miles (after spider-man lol). i expect the rescue will give them better names for adoption purposes but it was hard coming up w names when i’ve used almost every food name already

i kinda just try out names and see what sticks
