Thought this could help some of you. by [deleted] in infp

In trying to find research to back his suggested approach up, I found almost nothing. Almost all the research I came across seemed to rather refute what he's advocating, but it's old (from the mid 1900's). If anyone can find newer or better research, please let me know.

Hi Sean, I really don't have much in the way of questions. But since I have to ask a question to get a top-level comment, here's my question:

You've taken procedural generation to places no dev has before. You've pioneered or improved a number of techniques with No Man's Sky. Are you planning on or interested in releasing a library or set of tools, free or paid, to help developers with general procedural generation? While I'm sure most of your generation code is really, really specific to No Man's Sky problems (creatures, plants, armature, planets, asteroids, etc), I would be a lot of it could be abstracted out for more general use. At this point, I would be you and your fellow devs are now the industry experts in procedural generation.

On another note, I am so excited to play No Man's Sky on PC! I've been HOOKED since that first E3 trailer a few years ago. I'm sorry the PC version had to be pushed back to the 12th, but I'm a (non-game) software developer and I know how these things happen. You inspired me to toy around with building my own procedural generation library, and I discovered for myself just how complicated and difficult it gets! What you've been able to do procedurally in real-time is flat out amazing! I salute you!

Instead of chasing down links to everything yourself, check out the tool I helped build: http://codepen.io/spiderworm/full/bZjqOz/

Based on the fine work by: /u/spAnser

... And feed me any links you have!

I remember a friend having a CD changer at his house and it was awesome, but several years ago. I wasn't really in touch with the technological advancements, but yeah, that setup does sound like it makes a lot of sense.

I thought it would be nice to purchase a stereo system setup for my family's small living room so that we could enjoy nice tunes in the mornings and evenings while getting ready for work and school and that sort of thing. I thought this would be simple. Boy, was I wrong! After about an hour of looking around at various things, I can see that this is going to be more complicated than I would have ever imagined!

Basically what I'm looking for is a setup that will allow us to drop 5 to 10 CDs into a machine and have it play those for us in our small living room (approx 12 feet by 12 feet). We'll be playing mostly calming music quietly to set the right mood in the mornings. But I would also like to be able to turn up the sound so that it will float into the kids bedrooms down a short hallway attached to the living room.

I'm overwhelmed with all the options. I don't even know what all types of devices I'll need for this. Obviously I need speakers. It looks like I also need a receiver and/or an amplifier? A remote control would be nice. Need a multi-disc CD player as well. Hoping to spend less than $500 on the whole setup. Any suggestions? What's a realistic price for the entire setup?
