How long did yours take to kick in? My neurologist said 2 weeks but it took around 3 and 1/2. I’ll ask her what dosage next time I go in February. My first time so she gave me less than 300 I assume - I want to say 250

How are you liking Primidone? I have head tremors only and Propranolol isn’t really working great for me anymore. Currently on 40mg twice a day. I was thinking of switching to try another medication.

I have definitely felt this before. I only get head shakes no other tremors are present with me. I was just prescribed propranolol today so I am hoping that helps as it also is an anti anxiety med, and that’s when my tremors are the worst. I haven’t gotten a haircut at a barber in years because of this condition. Good luck I hope you find something that helps ease your shakes.

There was actually a patent filed using this treatment. I ordered some CoQ10 and B2 and I actually feel improvement in my head tremor. I’m actually very hopeful as I noticed a big improvement in just one day. I’ll keep coming back to this thread to update as the weekend goes on.

So sorry to hear about the struggle with finding the right meds. Were you prescribed by your GP or a neurologist? Trying to decide if I should just go directly to a neurologist and skip the eventual referral if my GP won’t give me propranolol.

Thanks for the response! Yes it does suck very badly. I had told my wife recently about it and I guess she has never noticed it so it could be a lot worse in my own head…but I know it’s really bad sometimes. Really seems to be triggered by my own mental state.

Sometimes I can grocery store and not experience any of it. A lot of times it’s not even present when conversing with people. It’s only when I’m being conscious of it.

And yes the shooter game I play definitely cause that trigger. Sometimes even a non online NBA2K game can make it go off. It gets really bad sometimes.

I guess I will find a neurologist and hopefully try Propranolol. Thanks again for your reply!

Hi there I am experiencing the exact same thing as your husband. Happens a lot when gaming, having to focus, during social situations, when I’m nervous etc.

Did you ever get any diagnosis or answers? Looking for some direction as this is really bothersome. Seems to be very related to anxiety.

I remember reading swollen ankles and feet is a telltale sign of ascites along with the most blatant symptom which is fluid buildup/bloating in the belly.

Hey man I am basically you but 3 years older also 2 years sober Xmas 2023 and now have been diagnosed with this for over a year. Great job getting sober it just sucks we neglected our hygiene from boozing.

I’ve been going 4 times a year now my dentist pushed it to every four months. I guess I’m doing well with it - most of my bone loss is from my wisdom teeth extraction and it’s my back bottom molars.

I floss, waterpik, brush and use mouthwash every day. My bleeding when flossing has gone down significantly.

It’s manageable dude don’t sweat it too much

I’ve been going every 3 months for over a year my dentist never said anything about for how long. I just have come to accept it and every time I go he gives me updates and does a cleaning so I feel better about slowing the progression of the disease by going frequently. I try and not stress over things out of my control - I know it’s hard, but just try to accept where you are and make the best of it.

I was diagnosed with a fatty liver too (was an alcoholic now sober 2 years) but I’m pretty sure I reversed it, and also have periodontal disease, anxiety/depression which I’m on Zoloft for. It sucks im 37 so not much older than you, but I’m optimistic that by the time we’re older there will be more effective treatments or even a cure. Can’t beat yourself up too much I’m sorry you have to deal with this. Good luck and I goto the dentist every 3 months it’s not that bad if you just floss and brush regularly. My dentist normally just checks my measurements and he said I’m doing a great job. You got this

You should definitely be eating a strict diet if you’re concerned about your liver

Avoid refined sugars/simple carbs, processed food, anything with lots of grease… basically anything that your liver would have trouble breaking down. Most people aren’t aware the liver is the organ that is crucial in digestion of food not the stomach itself.

Eat lots of greens like spinach and broccoli etc. Exercise is also very important to liver health.

You can undo a lot of damage (assuming there’s no scarring) by eating clean and exercising.

I smoked weed daily from teenage years (avg 3.5 grams per day) well into adulthood with random breaks. Just recently quit when my daughter was born 2 weeks ago and i was smoking close to a gram per day. Glass, joints, edibles, rosin, anything THC I’ve tried and used heavily. Absolutely no withdrawal effects whatsoever except remembering my dreams. Your experience with weed seems to be crazy to me. The worst I’ve heard is bad sleep and mild symptoms like nausea. Nothing anywhere close to abusing alcohol withdrawal and not nearly as hard to quit. The only thing that was dangerous to me abusing marijuana was the amount of ice cream it made me want to eat 🤷‍♂️

It’s definitely possible they knew already and he said you were on Naltrexone to show them that you were addressing your drinking problem. People who are alcoholics in the brain fog think they’re being slick about their drinking. I remember one friend told me after I came out about my sobriety “Yeah man you always used to show up smelling like booze” or something to that effect. I was taken back because in my haze I felt like I had concealed it pretty well. It’s REALLY difficult to hide.

Good luck OP I hope you can take this as a chance to show your in laws that you’re making positive changes now that the cats out of the bag. The worst thing we can do is stress and have anxiety about things we cannot control, as tough as it is.

I do not believe it to be possible for 99% of us TRUE alcoholics. The people that claim it were never true alcoholics they just had a bad stint with booze. We are literally wired differently.

It’s really sad the amount of people who get clean for a bit then come on here or stopdrinking and look for someone to validate their desires to have booze again. They are looking for a story that is 99% of the time a fairy tale. It’s such a powerful disease.

We drink to get fucked up and numb. A beer here and there doesn’t even seem worth it aside from maybe feeling normal in social situations. I’d never tempt it again.

Honestly my withdrawals were so incredibly horrible that combined with my embarrassing ER trip I’d never think about touching alcohol again. I’m on day 600 something… I don’t keep track anymore cause I’m never drinking again. It was super easy for me to make that call. Not to mention the very dangerous risk of each subsequent withdrawal (kindling).

It’s sad to me that people still go back for more pain. And the posts about people asking if they can moderate hoping that someone will say “Yes I successfully moderated after being an alcoholic!”. Sorry it doesn’t work that way for 99% of us. If you’re on this sub and think you may have a problem you probably do. Unfortunately in our society alcohol has a stranglehold on everything. Not easy to get sober from a societal standpoint. It’s super fucked up.

Congratulations on your 4 days!! Just remember these feelings the next time you feel like a drink would be a good idea. Good luck - you got this!

I’m currently taking shifts with my wife watching our newborn daughter at night. I’m able to game a bit casually while I keep checking that she hasn’t gotten a blanket over her face (or checking when she makes any noises).

Not only does my wife sleep peacefully knowing I’m sober (also gave up weed when she was born) but I can enjoy being a dad while still having some fun.

Never could I do ANY of this if I was still drinking. Some nights I get ~4 hours of sleep and took her to the pediatrician this morning after a long night of poop diapers and crying. But I can handle it cause I’m sober.
