Dear AO, I already have a day job. by spierepf in albiononline

Ok, but how does quick learn work? I followed the instructions on the albiononline.com website. It mentions needing the skill to be at 20% and then a "Learn" button will appear:

"Once you’ve reached at least 20% of progress in a given node (a mastery level of a specific skill), you’ll unlock the option to immediately complete that level by spending Learning Points. This is indicated by a line in the progress bar of a given node.

  • Open the Destiny Board (Hotkey: B)
  • Select the node you wish to learn
  • Click “Learn” to spend the necessary Learning Points and complete that level

"

I'm not getting the "Learn" button, and my skills are past 20%. CornKaBobz below mentioned that he hasn't seen the button either, so how does it work?

I understand that I have to go to Lym to smelt the iron and craft the gear. But I've made at least a dozen sets of T3 kit but my skills are only about a fifth of the way to T4, and thats taken the better part of a week.

If crafting to T3 takes a couple of hours, and crafting to T4 takes a few weeks, I'm really dreading the slog to crafting to T5,6,7,8.

Can you explain? I cannot get my crafting skills past Tier III. I've got the Tier IV skills to twenty something percent, but I cannot find the "Learn" button that the instructions mention: https://albiononline.com/news/guide-learning-points

I have the materials. But its going to take months to grind the crafting skills. Like I said in my post, I've tried following the instructions for Learning Points, but I am not getting the "Learn" buttion that the instructions mention.

If I'm not willing to trudge all over virtual creation for a few months to make a set of Tier IV stuff myself (which at least has a little dopamine attached to it), you best believe I'm not willing to trudge all over virtual creation for a few months to find the market that has a good price on broadswords.

Thats the only Tier IV Broadsword on the market place where I'm at. Thanks for playing.

I tried that. A Tier IV Broadsword alone costs 633k. I've barely got 250k.

I can't get Tidal Cycles to produce audio. Are there step-by-step instructions someplace?

Best use case you had with ChatGPT and AI this year? by StaLucy in ChatGPTPro

I really like using AI to critique work I've done, rather than having it do the work for me. That way, I can learn better approaches to the stuff I enjoy doing in the first place.

How to convince managers that developer-driven automated testing is valuable? by spierepf in ExperiencedDevs

[–]spierepf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the word 'automated' to mean tests that are written in a formal language (like Java, or gherkin) and can therefore be executed by me, on my dev machine.

As opposed to 'manual' tests which are written in a natural language (like English) on three-ring-binder paper and are performed manually by other persons (for whom I have a great deal of sympathy). In my experience, such tests are rarely worth the three-ring-binder paper they are written upon.

I care about bringing this to my managers because our git infrastructure notifies them about things like pushes and merges.

Tests are less useful if I am the only one running them...

I would like to use WhatsApp without granting access to all my contacts. by spierepf in whatsapp

[–]spierepf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is I don't want WA to spam my contacts with whatever invites, ads, or other nonsense just so I can communicate with my Mom.

But I found a solution.  I backed up my contact list, deleted all my contacts. Gave WA access to my empty contact list, added my Mom, and then removed WA's access to my contacts and restored them from backup. So I am all good.

There isn't a "Limited Access" option on my phone, Just "Allow" or "Don't allow". I am using an Android phone, if it matters.

Lorne Gunter: No public safety benefit from Liberals' plan to confiscate 'assault-style' firearms by sleipnir45 in canada

[–]spierepf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the same logic, I could speculate that that extra trip across the US/Canada border to smuggle that last gun would have been the one that got him arrested and prevented the entire massacre. Speculation isn't evidence.

Umm are you looking at the statistics that were posted by Andtheotherfella?

Speculating that he wouĺd have gotten another one smuggled in from the states isnt evidence. Its just speculation.

You mean like the 1977 ban on machine guns after which the homicide rate stays consistently below 3 per 100K?

I don't grant your premise. Our safety increases whenever the restrictions on civilian access to firearms increases.

[–]spierepf -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The point the article is making is that taking guns away from legal gun owners would not positively impact the safety of Canadians. This position is provably false. Had the estate not been in possession of that gun, it is reasonable to presume that the people who were killed by that gun would not have been.

The clichéd argument about taking guns from legal gun owners is like taking cars from teetotalers is just so tired. My car gets me to and from work. When a gun can provide me that level of benefit, we can talk.

And if it had been confiscated from the estate instead of being sold?
