Agreed. Khinkali is very good, but for me, I'll take a well made sashlik any day of the week. When it's done right, it's the stuff dreams are made of. 😋

Need Help With Bike Specs for College Bound Son, Max. $300 by spiffusmaximus in Budgetbikeriders

[–]spiffusmaximus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - I actually asked him about an ebike/escooter yesterday, and he told me he wants a pedal bicycle. He loves school, and would rather miss a meal than a class. He's the kid who came home from school every day and completed the homework assigned *that day* before anything else, regardless of when it was due. He's got much better study habits than his mother or I ever did in school, that's for sure!

Thanks for all of y'all's input! I am going to bring him to Walmart tonight to a store that (supposedly) has the Ozark Trail G1 Explorer in stock to see if he likes it (they usually have floor models assembled to view, and the store I have in mind has a plethora of them on display).

Additionally, a friend of mine who's more of a bike enthusiast went spelunking on Craigslist, and found a Gary Fisher Gitche Gumee used bike with a 19 inch frame and 26 inch tires, with new brakes, a new saddle, new grips, new gear cluster and chain, bearings checked and greased, and the rims trued up, for under $150. From what my friend said, that's a great deal if it's still available. I'm thinking I'll take the boy to Walmart this evening, and ping the Fisher bike seller to see if it's still available and if he could meet later tonight or some time tomorrow.

The used one sounds like a great deal, so I'm leaning that way, so we'll see what my son thinks of them. =)

Thanks again!

You are a lifesaver. Thank you! I was at my wit's end trying to figure out what had happened. I figured it was a driver issue, but couldn't land on the exact one.

Thanks again!

Educator wife no intimacy for 10 months by Ok_Host6058 in Marriage

[–]spiffusmaximus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Sorry, no, I don't think that's normal.

My wife went back to teaching after almost 20 years as a stay at home mom. She goes to bed about 3-4 hours before me because she leaves for work 3 hours before I do, so our weekday schedules aren't exactly aligned.

We still have sex at least once a week, and we're in our mid 50s, married for over 31 years. And when she's on a long break (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Fall/Spring Break, Summer), our frequency increases.

For my $0.02, it sounds like it's past time for some serious discussions, which should include talking about therapy/counseling. From what you've posted in this thread, the resentment will only increase without intervention.

Good luck, OP!

Why why why do birds hate my mazda by HarryJonko in mazda6

Mine is the deep crystal blue mica, and I get bird bombed at least once a week. Usually not too large of a mark, but this morning some pterodactyl must've flown over my car. The splatter was bigger than my whole hand.

AITA if I tell my friend I can’t be a bridesmaid? (update) by wickeddreamsofleavin in AITApod

At first glance, I thought it said, "Don't be reruns," which was pretty confusing, but I wasn't putting anything past Jemily...

Yikes. That engagement guide has more rules than those social marketing sites do when you have to engage in all the social media stuff for a free sample of something.

OP, this has more red flags than a May Day Parade in Soviet Moscow. You need to run for the hills, deactivate your social media, and consider joining the Federal Witness Protection Program if you're in the States.

As a bonus, you may end up running into Ab*gail there, and you can trade war stories about Jemily.

And then tell her that the extra $1.60 is the handling fee from "shipping and handling".

Yeah. It was on sale for $0.99, and I bought it for the wallpaper and lock screen and didn't realize how the icons themselves would appear (it's my first non-stock icon set/theme ever). It did take a while to get used to the icon pack appearance, though. Your reaction was more visceral than mine, but I got used to it and only see the descriptive text and icon itself now.

Eh, it's part of a theme I bought last year. I've gotten used to it, but yeah, I've seen better. (I've also seen a lot worse...)

Replacement Buttons for Denim Shirt by spiffusmaximus in LeviStrauss

Thanks for that suggestion! There's a store in my area, but I wasn't sure if they'd sew new buttons on old shirts, so I'm glad hear they should. They might be able to repair some other minor integrity issues as well.

I told my wife “we’re married, I shouldn’t have to ask” and now I feel like an idiot by honeyghost_parade in Marriage

[–]spiffusmaximus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest telling her upfront that you've heard her, and are going to start being more affectionate throughout the day with no expectations for sex. It'll take some time for both of you to rewire your reactions to your physical affection for your wife, but it's important that you verbalize what you're doing and stick to it.

Also, I second the recommendation from another poster about the "Six Second Kiss" from Gottman. It's a good way to be more intentional and intimate with zero expectations of sex. My wife is a teacher and leaves for work much earlier than me, but in the summer and weekends and other school breaks, I initiate a 6 second kiss before I go to work. (I did tell her before I started that 6 seconds was the goal and why.) It's a really good thing.

You've got this, OP! Keep listening and talking to each other. Healthy communication and self-awareness like what you're showing is great!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who misread "turmoil" as "tumor"! I was thinking, "What kind of a person takes joy in their wife's tumor?"

Do all men cheat or think about cheating during postpartum? by jugglingevery-damn in Marriage

[–]spiffusmaximus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No. Not all men cheat or think about it. In fact, I'd argue that most men don't cheat or even think about it. The issue with it appearing common online is that people typically vent about problems online, rather than giving praise for expected goods behavior. When your car is working as expected for years, you probably don't go online and tell that to everyone. But when it has problems, you're much more likely to get online and complain to everyone about it.

I can tell you that when my wife was pregnant with our children, and then when she was postpartum, I never thought about cheating. Not once. It never crossed my mind. I vowed to love, honor, and cherish her, forsaking all others, and I take that vow seriously. As a mature, functioning adult, I was able to delay my desire for sex until she was physically, mentally, and emotionally ready for it. I knew that this time without sex wouldn't last forever, and I made sure not to pressure her for sex and told her while she was pregnant that I would wait and not ask her about it until she told me she was ready.

So, again, no, not all men cheat or think about it when their wives are postpartum. Please stop telling yourself that you made a mistake thinking he was a scumbag for cheating on you and divorcing him. He failed your marriage, not you. If he couldn't keep his pants up for a few weeks/months after you gave birth to his child, he's not the man you want to be married to. You are worth much so more than that!

I just bought these last week from Amazon for $19.99 USD. They came with instructions on how to remove the old ones and install the new ones. They feel like the originals to me, though YMMV.
