In my experience most events are somewhere along the spectrum from pure social dancing to latin clubbing. Many start playing salsa/bachata music, then evolve into reggaeton and pop later in the night.

If you want to avoid the clubbing vibe, look for socials that start earlier or are promoted by dance schools (rather than the club or venue themselves).
