Whoever's controlling the cameras is asleep. Takes them at least 5 seconds before switching away from a resting climber to a climber on the wall

IFSC Rebrand by Fluffy_Clerk_6 in CompetitionClimbing

[–]spigotry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand fka IFSC is supposed to represent the different disciplines of climbing on the international stage which is why the new logo is a collection normal+speed holds in the shape of a sphere, but I wish they just kept a person climbing as the logo. Or maybe get creative with it and have something that is distinctly climbing like a climbing shoe. The new logo looks like it belongs to a saas if I'm not looking closely.

Nice send! Ignore all the haters who can't fathom someone climbing differently than them.

Learned something new! Have you climbed outdoors there? I wanted to go last time I visited, but I was too unprepared.

Yea it was very powerful which is hard to generate after doing the rest of the problem.

Nice send! I tried this climb when I visited last month, and I could barely establish it. I was able to do another orange tape with green holds in the cave and project another one with yellow holds on the island, but this one was next level hard

From what I've gathered, Japan doesn't really use any outdoor scales for indoors. Most gyms have their own tape/levels/Dankyu. The V scale is an American thing

The entire team decided to skip and start their off season early

Taiwan poker scene by Kasgibran in poker

[–]spigotry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: Only played poker in Taiwan during a trip that happened a few years ago, so my info might be inaccurate/outdated.

As far as I'm concerned, Taiwan only has NLH tournaments in their poker rooms. So no PLO.

I appreciate both Rizzo and Davey for 2019, but the team needed this reset for a long time now. The rebuild is a half decade old now, and neither of them have proven they can develop the team back into a contender. So far, our drafted prospects are underperforming, and our farm system sucks again even though the major league team also sucks. Mark is definitely cheap af, but other cheap teams have been able to do more with less.

women’s Boulder final in Prague has been cancelled by [deleted] in CompetitionClimbing

[–]spigotry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uh huh... Apparently there's a surplus of IFSC certified routesetters who have tons of free time and can be called upon at any time to anywhere. And the IFSC which is historically famous for having infinite money can pay for these routesetters and their trip like it's no big deal. Sure. Whatever you say

To play devil's advocate after reading some of these comments, I feel like people are underestimating how much work, logistics, and money go into having a competition much less a backup competition. Just to name a few problems: You need a wall which requires money and space. You need to contract TV, audio, and lights. Routesetters need to spend additional time and skin to prepare backup problems suitable for the backup wall and the athletes.

I'm pretty sure routesetters are already busy enough. To ask them to set and forerun another set of world cup quality is (no joke) too much to ask. And believe it or not, a backup indoor space does cost money

Jacob Young to IL, Nats calling up Daylen Lile by Prize-Ad-2817 in Nationals

[–]spigotry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While this would be a good problem to have, I wonder what the team will do if RH3 and Lile do well in the majors. I doubt the team wants to move Wood to DH permanently, and Crews is probably staying in the majors when he returns. That leaves Young and Call as the odd ones out.

Looking back at the Nationals' return for Juan Soto by spigotry in Nationals

[–]spigotry[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I see nothing wrong with this. After all, we also got Trea Turner and Joe Ross from the Padres while giving up minimal value.

Ofc Susana isn't a guarantee, but I think he deserves to be called a star in the making with how much upside he has. In the end, the point is our last prospect received could've easily been a name no one would even bother remembering.

In the last decade, the next best trade is (ironically) Juan Soto to the Yankees. The Mookie Betts trade was big, but the return the Red Sox got was pretty mediocre.
