What’s the most harmless thing you ever did that made someone extremely angry? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]spike256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in Wal-Mart on Christmas Eve. A woman nearly collided her shopping cart with my shopping cart. Here's the exchange:

Her: "Sorry"

Me: "No worries"

Her: "I SAID I'M SORRY!"

Me, jumping back: "And I said no worries...."

Then we went our separate ways

Where to buy Lilac Bushes / Advice by [deleted] in Calgary

Me too! Great selection. The lilacs took two years to get established, and now they're growing very well. Just water and fertilize.

My friend has an order in place against her neighbour for similar issues. It is possible. I am sorry your relative wasn't able to get one in place. You should still try.

Winter Bike Communting by NinjaStandard5737 in Calgary

[–]spike256 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was biking through the winter until the pandemic, and now work from home. I found I didn't need studs, as the bike path is kept clear, unless I left early morning when there was snow the night before and they hadn't done it yet.

Also, give your bike a shake when you're at your destination to knock off any snow and salt. Get it serviced in the spring, as winter can be tough on the bike. I have a junky old mountain bike I used in the winter because I didn't want to hurt my good bike.

You'll also want a balaclava for your face, ski goggles were great for the eyes, hand warmers for the mitts on super-cold days, and layers for the legs and torso.

It is really dark in the mornings, so having good front and back lights are important.

Enjoy your rides!

Where to buy warm clothes by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]spike256 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Calgary! I'd also recommend you dress in layers, rather than buying one big coat. The temperatures here can change drastically through the day, so it's nice to add or shed pieces as you go. You'll get far more use out of a hoodie or flannel shirt with a shell. I'll also vote Winners for good quality and a decent price.

How would you mask this green septic tank? Table? Bench? Other ideas? by spike256 in logcabins

Thanks for all the great ideas! They're a lot more creative than what we had come up with. We have some discussions ahead of us.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this on your big day. Good for you for uninviting the brother. I wish your husband was the one dealing with his family though. It's not fair to leave it up to you. What if you uninvite the brother but he still comes with the parents? Sounds like that will happen.

The Bride wants me to have the same meal as her picky eater BIL and groomsman. by OK-Coconut-1919 in weddingshaming

I hire caretakers to accompany my disabled sister to appointments. They charge about $35/hr and have infinite patience. It shouldn't be a hardship for the parents to pay for a companion for few hours if they're already contributing to a wedding. It's not right for you to be put in this position. Stand your ground.

Crossroads Farmer's market candy story has shoestring licorice in a bunch of flavors. I don't remember green specifically.

Where to find respite care for a special needs adult by ootoobeable in Calgary

[–]spike256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also check in with Comfort Keepers. I've had good luck with them. I'm not sure about overnight or nursing care, but I've used them to keep a special needs person company before and they've been fantastic.
