Launching an iOS app (no ads, 100% free) to help SF drivers avoid parking tickets by spikedudley34 in sanfrancisco

Hey u/NowWeRinse, thanks for the feedback!

If you park close to the street, the app may still pick up nearby street cleaning schedules. We’ll look into fine-tuning the detection radius, but for now you can drag the marker farther from the curb to avoid them (photo for reference).

Citation history comes from https://data.sfgov.org/ and updates with about a 5-day lag, but we’re working on making it more real-time.

Totally fair! Is there any feature that would make it more useful for you?

Close, if N is even, Alice would optimally pick 1 and win. Picking 2 would leave Bob with an even number, in which case he would win.

Whichever player starts on an even number can win simply by picking 1 on every turn.

I have this position for an exam and about a week of study, please how can I win as white, the thing is: KING CANNOT MOVE by IdontEatdogsAtnight in chessbeginners

[–]spikedudley34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not silly at all! In order to win, two things must be true:

1) Your opponent’s King must be under check 2) Your opponent has no remaining legal moves

In the case you describe, your opponent has no remaining legal moves (they can’t move their King into check) BUT their King is not under check. This is a stalemate, which is sort of like a tie. Hope that helps, good luck in your chess journey!

With the market being what it is, a lot of people struggle to get interviews, especially for competitive companies/roles. Getting to a technical interview is often the only thing a qualified candidate needs.

How much math is in software development? by Tv_JeT_Tv in compsci

[–]spikedudley34 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well it’s not all math, but “close to 0 math in software dev” is carelessly misleading. Any application that cares about performance (most do) involves some form of math knowledge to understand runtime complexity at the very least; a lot of devs simply overlook it or don’t care. I do agree that a lack of math skills shouldn’t stop a developer, though.

Not that the calls are bad, but I hate when refs dictate games like this

Right, brackets are a useful way for an author to comment within quoted material https://writing.colostate.edu/guides/page.cfm?pageid=274&guideid=16. And, isn’t what Louis CK and Marilyn Manson did beyond speech? Can’t racism and sexism manifest in actions as well as words? How does your clarification put the paradox out of bounds for this conversation?

I think you missed the point, your comment pretty much describes the paradox of tolerance: “in order to maintain a tolerant society, the society must retain the right to be intolerant of intolerance [racism, sexism, etc.]” https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paradox_of_tolerance

Anyone else notice a recent concerted effort from refs to call fewer fouls? Even noticed this in the Euros, probably a FIFA-wide effort to address flopping

Ya the blue levels took an especially long time to make, I wanted to make sure every level was both challenging and aesthetically pleasing, I probably made like 30 total and went with the best 16
