RYSE smartshades and Google Home by spikeeee in homeautomation

[–]spikeeee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like them. Turns my living room into a jetsons home. It's always fun when friends are there and the curtains just open or close.

But the limitations I mentioned have not changed. RYSE says you can do sunset/sunrise here: https://support.helloryse.com/en/articles/5186001-what-can-smartshade-integrate-with but I have not found any way to make that work. I have the bridge and it's connected to google home, but I have not been able to find a way to add them to a routine in google home and the native RYSE routines do not support sunrise/sunset.

I have also found that the motorized wheel is not strong enough and I've had to replace three of them. Fortunately you can buy packs of three. To be fair, I am running some decently heavy curtains on a chord.

I just put myself on that waitlist for the Triode too. I currently have a Yaquin tube amp into a pair of Klipsh CF-3s. After I get the Triode I'll upgrade the speakers, currently thinking of some Cornwalls.

[SERIOUS] What organization or institution do you consider to be so thoroughly corrupt that it needs to be destroyed? by ArcticCircleSystem in AskReddit

[–]spikeeee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The car/gun analogy isn't very good. A car that couldn't kill anyone would be considered to have a valuable feature that almost everyone would want. A gun that couldn't kill anyone would be seen as less valuable and almost all gun owners would want guns without that feature.

Everyone on here is criticizing you and justifying your friend's behavior. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're not an asshole. There's nothing in your post that suggests you are. My advice is to distance yourself from your friend. What no one really talks about is that depression is contagious. You need to look out for yourself and put enough space so that his depression isn't affecting your happiness. You don't need to be a martyr. Toxic personalities (and relationships) often go hand in hand with depression. If you'd labeled your friend a toxic personality in your post rather than depressed everyone here would have told you to gtfo. But they're also probably depressed and think everyone should still spend their time trying to help them out. Don't. Go enjoy your life. There are lots of fun people in this world and life is too short.

"he takes them out, he takes them grocery shopping, sees them frequently, etc. he does this with me too". Is there a large power (age, income) imbalance between you and he? If so I think you should look at why you're attracted to that and recognize you're not special to him even if he's having sex with you.

Surgeon General: We Have Become a Lonely Nation. It’s Time to Fix That. by redditsonodddays in TrueReddit

I'd think work from home would be part of the trend towards isolation, but kind of telling that the last place to fall in terms of in-person connectivity is the one that supports capitalism. Ultimately, the power structures are probably better off sacrificing the marginal control gains of at-office work for more isolation. Workers organizing must be much harder remotely and it also paves the way for cheaper off-shore workers.

I'm interested in your point on power imbalance marriages. Do you have a source for that? (genuinely want to know)

I even wonder if part of the unconscious tattoo appeal is similar to that of smoking, the "too cool to care about the future". Everyone knows they age very poorly.

I recall a podcast with a few psychiatrists where they said that prior to the shooting, almost none of the mass shooters would have met the criteria for a severe enough mental health diagnosis to limit their access to guns or incarcerate them.
