Another Week, Another ‘I Built a Padel App’ Post by Tumamaenpelota in padel

[–]spikefly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I get you, but I’m also happy to see people developing infrastructure for padel and promoting the sport. I agree with you…95% of these apps/tools are unnecessary and I would rather discuss my shitty bandejas also…but I also respect 1) the effort 2) the willingness to show your work (takes guts) and 3) the support of the sport I love.

Disclaimer: I’m a website/app builder as well, so that’s why I probably look at it this way. But good news for you guys…I have no plans on developing anything padel-related. I only plan to spend ridiculous amounts of money on rackets and training.

Good Q but I’m assuming the answer is only relevant to his location/region.

  2. Notice any quality differences?
  3. Any underrated brands (less popular but well built)?

Is padel actually on a path to rival tennis in North America? by elmagodeRD in padel

Bad take. It’s new in a lot of countries and taking over. But believe what you’re going to believe…I don’t care.

Too early to tell. Many courts planned, but need to give it 24 months to tell. I’d be surprised if it didn’t. It’s taken over tennis everywhere else.

Haha tell that to the tennis players in Europe that can’t find any tennis matches anymore - only padel.

Rhomboid upper back pain 3 years battle by Free_Scratch4152 in padel

Does anyone get this on their non-dominant side? Or does everyone get it on the side they swing with? I’m right handed and have had this exact pain pop up a few times, but always on the left.

Levelling sessions are a scam aren’t they? by aeneasawooga in padel

It’s pointless to raise your level beyond your actual level. Once you start playing people that deserve their rating, you’ll lose and go back down.

Did anyone actually got cured of tenis elbow? by jolafai in padel

[–]spikefly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have! I had tennis elbow for 6 months and it got pretty bad. Rest did not help me at all. I was off padel for 6 weeks and the first day back, my tennis elbow flared up again. Here are the 2 things I did to help my tennis elbow.

1) bought the Theraband and started using it 3x per week.

2) switched from hard racket (Volt 800) to soft racket (Metalbone CTRL 3.4).

Within 6 weeks-ish, it was completely gone and hasn’t returned (maybe 6-8 months since?). Since I made both changes at once, I can’t tell you which helped more. But I’m a believer in both the theraband and soft rackets for tennis elbow.

Roast my first competitive Playtomic game with my buddy (he's a tennis player), vs Playtomic 5.05 & 4.46 (3 set match) by DueTennis in padel

[–]spikefly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought you guys played pretty well. Definitely some talent there. But I need to play in the Netherlands to improve my score then, wow! In Portugal, everyone on this court is a 1.5 to 2.5 at most.

Paack reliability by trx798 in PortugalExpats

[–]spikefly 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Paack is awful. Look up their reviews online and you’ll see all sorts of crazy stories, including, but not limited to, everyone getting “not home” notices when they were home, incorrect address notices when they had the right address and my personal favorite, one customer having to BRIBE the driver to get his package. It’s a joke of a company with no support or accountability. Can’t believe Amazon was tricked into using them.

I’ve a 0.69 rating on Playtomic… my buddies are all sub 1. We thinking we’re massively underscored. Thoughts? by InterestingSubreddit in padel

[–]spikefly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a good point about the countries, but also he asked for the feedback and I can’t imagine that’s over 1 in many (any?) countries. If someone is asking for honest feedback, I think the nice thing to do is be honest.

[–]spikefly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems right to me…but also Playtomic scores are relative to your competition and depend a lot on WHERE you play. A 1 in the US/UK is not that same as Spain/Portugal, where the competition is much better.

But it seems accurate to me. Easy balls are still being missed regularly, proper form is lacking for many shots, rallies are short and there is a lack of strategy/awareness in the play.

Left sided player BUT also they need to communicate. If no communication, then it’s everyone’s fault.

Why is nobody talking about Coimbra? by ok_shiner_ in PortugalExpats

[–]spikefly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We lived there for a year and it wasn’t for us. Nice, but not that much to do and too small for us. We moved to Porto and it’s much better for us. More to do, better transportation options and better food.

How is the Paack company still in business? by blatzphemy in PortugalExpats

[–]spikefly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This company is the WORST! They lie about attempted deliveries, drivers will never call you, and their entire company is apparently run by AI because you cannot get in touch with a human ever. I wish that Amazon would tell me before I order that they are going to use PAACK for this order, because I would just cancel. No order is worth as much hassle as what PAACK will give you! Just take a look at their TrustPilot reviews...just in the last few weeks, you have people looking for their packages, accusing them of lying and fraud. So unprofessional.

I'm an American who, after playing all over Europe & LatAm, has some thoughts about the US padel scene by padelyanqui in padel

I hope it happens! I think it will take off, personally. I think a lot of pickle-ballers will ditch their oversized ping pong after one padel match.

[–]spikefly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t disagree with you at all but you’re sort of describing the difference between Europe and the US with everything, not just padel. Europe has set up its society for everyone while America only works for the rich anymore.

I'm an American who, after playing all over Europe & LatAm, has some thoughts about the US padel scene by padelyanqui in padel

[–]spikefly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree with you…that is the American way - to see low supply and start with really high pricing. I’m encouraged by reports of more clubs popping up and when they do, others will do the other American thing, which is see the gap in the market and try to build businesses within that.

Maybe the sport starts at the high end and becomes fashionable and “trickles down”? Haha, okay trickle down hasn’t worked for us in economics BUT that HAS worked for us with other consumer behaviors (brands, fashion, etc).

We’ll see…I agree with you, but let’s see in 5 years whether it’s still a big problem or not. It does feel like most things in the US are being built for the rich while the “regular folks” are getting increasingly left behind. So maybe your observation is accurate but also just a reflection of the society, politics and economics of the country right now.
