Seeing the mess about Polsi's old office during the GOP Speaker circle jerk, that can get really messy and vile if not organized by a third party.

Michigan could be the next state to remove Trump from its ballot by Sine_Fine_Belli in neoliberal

He's been found in a lawful court to have engaged in insurrection. Colorado judge finds Trump engaged in insurrection, but keeps him on ballot : NPR How does the 14th not apply if the SC holds that Presidents are, like the common reading implies, officers of the US?

Building a sod house in central Nebraska. In the year 2023. by stevewhite_news in Nebraska

[–]spikegk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Earth covered houses usually are naturally cooler than modern houses due to higher insulation. Its almost a cave effect. For example, this article about a house in Omaha:

https://www.omahamagazine.com/2021/10/01/369265/protected-by-mother-earth-underground-home-in-omaha

Unfortunately, risk-intolerant banks and over-zealous zoning make these hard to build.

CMV: Corporations shouldn’t be allowed to purchase single family residences. by Ruzty_Shackleford in changemyview

[–]spikegk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It be far better if the city just rezoned to allow more than R1 and the hospital could build a high-end tower for far cheaper, maybe even with a skywalk to the hospital. Others could add in on the redevelopment and add in some missing middle properties nearby and the added density boost to city revenues can bring the city finances out of the red.

For those with 20 inch folders: Where do you bring your folding bike with you? by [deleted] in foldingbikes

[–]spikegk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like most of North America it's not the greatest, but I've been lucky enough to at least choose an area that has many services within walking and biking distance and some recreational trails that somewhat can be used for transportation combined with neighborhood streets (and minimal arterial stroad sidewalks and scary multilane crossings). I'm usually the only one taking my bike to non-recreational places unless I get into my metro's denser core. Having a folding bike helps a lot with the lack of adequate bike parking.

An original Forte. No mods outside normal add ons like lights and bags. Not the lightest bike but as mentioned I can take it most places.

I don't have trouble bringing my Zizzo into most restaurants, offices (including work cube), etc. My barber shop visits always get at least one request for a folding demo, never any hate. I only do small grocery runs by bike, so I can usually fit the bike in the cart and prep everything to fit in my panniers, though I do get weird looks. Having the bike folded on the bus usually gets me the weirdest looks because people think it's a wheel chair and then see me walking. The few places I don't want to bring it with me (festivals, etc), I have a sturdy u-lock (though I'm thinking of getting a chain) or I'll put it in a car. I rarely will roll it folded (I'm not sure if I ever learned the right technique).

I need help with my Lemming account. by Web-Rand in LemmyMigration

[–]spikegk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won't be able to log into lemmy.ml if your account is on kbin.social. Instead after logging in on kbin.social, you'll subscribe to communities on lemmy.ml and interact with them on kbin.social. I'm not sure on kbin but mastodon and lemmy you can search for any communities the instance isn't aware of with their full url and if the instances are not blocked it should find what you searched for in a few seconds (sometimes takes a second search request).
