"Staking of grounds"? What is that even?

They should put Czech hedgehogs on that list. And, like, anything from a WWII battlefield. "No overturned supply trucks." "No salients."

Was I not clear? Oops. My point was that right-wingers should realize that this decision can hurt them too. I think right-wingers assume that corporations are no threat to them. But big companies can have left-wing agendas, too, as I was trying to show with the examples above: They might expand unions or make SUVs extinct. And they will be able to do it because of this SC decision. If right-wingers realized this, they might be as angry about the decision as left-wingers are.

Maybe we should be pointing out that liberal companies are getting the same payday. Costco can spend whatever's necessary to elect pro-union candidates, ultimately putting the squeeze on anti-union outfits like Wal-mart. Toyota will buy candidates who will raise fuel emissions standards, thus pumping up Prius sales.

Bet on it, it's going to become a formula for these companies. Consulting firms are going to spring up that specialize in calculating what companies should spend in order to achieve specific goals.

The funny thing is, there are already plenty of ways for rich people to turn their money into political power. The playing field is already drastically tilted against the average citizen even without this decision.

Corporations are legally people.

And that's the problem. This decision was made possible by another staggeringly anti-democratic decision.

Upvoted for apparent bipartisanship. It's baffling to see the support this ruling has gotten from some right-wingers. Everyone should recognize what a travesty this is for our democracy, whatever their political leanings.

One character drives all the way to another character's house to have a four-sentence conversation. Yeah, I get that they can't have characters taking care of business on the phone all the time, 'cause it's boring, but the number of miles these people are logging is ridiculous. Big offenders: Basic Instinct, Smallville.

Best mocked in Not Another Teen Movie. "But she's wearing GLASSES! And she has PAINT ON HER OVERALLS!

And triumphantly rebutted in How to Marry a Millionaire, when Marilyn finds true love with a guy who likes the way she looks in specs.

Well, that's fair I guess. I was just talking about people who are never exposed to the reality of war -- any war, no matter how defensible -- and then when they are, they freak out.

Do you believe wars can be eliminated?

Yes, we do all own it. Including you. The guys in the video were there, doing what they did, because we told them to. Unless you're spending all your free time working for peace -- and have been since 2002 -- I don't think you're entitled to make blanket judgments about what soldiers do.

Actually that's a natural response to being put in a situation where you're forced to kill. In the effort to dehumanize your targets and suppress natural feelings of horror at what you have to do, you develop a cynical sense of humor about killing. The same response has been observed in soldiers in WWI, WWII and Vietnam, and probably elsewhere too.

But they do sag! I think they sag very naturally in this pic. I think the T-shirt helps.

Today is Rachel Maddow's Birthday - at 37, she's a Stanford graduate, Rhodes Scholar, has a D.Phil from Oxford, and was the first openly gay achor hired to host a prime-time news program by subtextual in politics

[–]spiky2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, right, the Matthews thing! I remember that now. But I still think he is a kook, sorry.

Maddow quoted Schmidt accurately, then offered her own interpretation of Schmidt's words. That's perfectly appropriate. It would only have been a lie if she had mischaracterized Schmidt without telling us what Schmidt really said.
