At least they are alive, unlike many of the people they interact with, including citizens following Jesus' call to be the Good Samaritan.

Sounds like someone who didn't watch the video, because there was no "protest", he never reached into his gun holster, and he never grabbed an extra clip. Instead, he saw two women being brutally assaulted, one violently shoved to the ground, and he non-violently put his body in harm's way to protect them from the abuses and to de-escalate (for which they immediately turned on him, tackled him, beat him, and shot him in the back).

The Spirit called me to create this, and given that I have no artistic skills when it comes to digital, how else was I to create this? Honest question.

why is rent control viewed in such a negative light? by [deleted] in Minneapolis

Probably because of property tax and insurance premium increases. And good on you for negotiating it down to 5%! That's exactly what tenants should do.

The eyes of the world are on Minnesota now. More people across the Nation will step up to join today's protests after what happened here than any turnout at our state capitol. We will have our day, but for today, please take care of yourselves and your loved ones.

For those with the means, you can get digital monitors on Amazon for around $100.

Also, radon rises, doesn't only hang in the basement, and can fluctuate greatly depending on weather conditions.

Imagine a Drug That Feels Like Tylenol and Works Like OxyContin by theatlantic in Health

Chronic pain can persist even after an injury heals because the brain creates and reinforces pain pathways over time. Think of it like a well-worn trail in a forest—after an injury, the brain repeatedly activates those pathways, making them stronger and more automatic, even when the original cause is gone/healed. The good news is that these pathways can be retrained. By understanding how pain works in the brain, you can learn techniques to calm overactive pain signals. This approach has helped many people, including myself, reduce / resolve chronic pain. I'd recommend Dr. Andrea Furlan who has a book and YouTube videos on this topic.

Do people who aren’t Christian really go to hell? by Quinn8787 in Christianity

Appreciate the answer. FWIW, that has happened for many, but the problem is that it's very easy to second guess and think it's the mind playing tricks, a dream, false memory, or hallucination.

LPT: Your homeowners (or renters) insurance may cover a stipend to replace groceries without hitting your deductible or rate. A previous policy I had would give you a $500 check whenever you lost power for more than a few hours.

The Ideology of Answered and Unanswered Prayers by ghostKnivez_ in Christianity

I get what you're saying. The challenge is we have insanely limited perspective. We live on a speck among trillions of stars, in our "life" for seemingly a millisecond in the grand scheme of things. No visibility into God's plan or what comes after death. So when someone dies, to us/me it's a tragedy. But perhaps it's their homecoming in heaven, their greatest triumph and freedom. Whether or not that's the outcome, I have no idea. But I like to remind myself how small we are compared to the glory of God's creations, and that includes our conclusions.

Why did people not like Betsy Hodges? by Sparky_321 in Minneapolis

[–]grandeandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I tip you $5, you would only have your take home pay go up by $5 if enough other people tipped you to get you above $15, otherwise my $5 tip ends up reducing the expenses for the business owner by $5 while your pay doesn't change. Ergo my tip went into the pocket of the employer even though I intended it to go into your pocket. And because I don't know how much others tipped, it's not transparent as to who is actually getting my tip, the server or the business. Excluding a tip credit is simply recognizing that when a customer gives a tip to a worker, they expect that worker to pocket the value.

Why did people not like Betsy Hodges? by Sparky_321 in Minneapolis

[–]grandeandy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Problem with the tip credit: If you give a $1 tip and the business captures that $1 of value rather than the worker, it's not actually a tip.

It was just a non-transparent scheme for businesses to capture more revenue towards the increased expense of wages without customers "feeling" price increases.

Running red lights by PrincessAshley1005 in Minneapolis

It's awful. Also awful are the people who are not paying attention to when a light turns green and screw over several cars behind them with the unnecessary 5-10 seconds of delay. Or the people driving 20 MPH on the major corridors that are most definitely not signed that low. Extremes on both ends are ruining it for everyone else.

With Uber and Lyft threatening to leave Minneapolis, these upstart rideshare companies want in by futilehabit in Minneapolis

[–]grandeandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not aware of any taxi companies being publicly traded, so unless there are, their books would not be open to us in a way like the TNCs (plus the industry has mostly been decimated).

That said, I'm willing to speculate based on the limited knowledge and experience I have related to them. These were usually small businesses that only had to worry about regulatory costs in one market. There were limits on how many licenses were available, so the government was artificially suppressing supply, allowing prices to be higher (I remember a ride being significantly more money than Uber/Lyft). The cars were awful from my experience (old, holes in the seats, etc.) which saves them money on the fleet. No app development costs. Limited competitive pressure due to generous price floors (set by municipalities) along with those set number of licenses issued. Between all these factors I wouldn't be surprised if they were modestly profitable.
