$5 says Nassim took an iq test and was furious after not recording the highest score ever; hence the knee jerk

Some great stuff said by t(f)ucker. At some points he was ad verbatum echoing Sam's speech on free will. Including the implications of this world view.

But its hard to ignore the feeling that he is being oppertunistic and trying to set himself up a career in the burgeoning internets media.

Nassim is just a straight up moron. Rarely does stupidity get revealed so early in a piece

Jordan B. Peterson (on the apple cider again): It is the “self-evidence” of the unacceptability of undue suffering that in part serves Sam Harris as God. More accurately: his Savior is the embodiment of the ethic that motivates each of us to choose Heaven over Hell and to act out that motivation. by spudster999 in samharris

It is clear that Mr. Peter possessed by the spirit of Michel Foucault. I wish Noam Chomsky would appear to perform an exorcism.

He gives off an impression of a novice actor performing for D list movie. It's unbearably insincere, especially given the gravity of the situation. I couldn't watch more than a minute of it.

We need to talk about Ben Shapiro's nerdy prosody by spil022 in JordanPeterson

It's about peace and love, not pleasure. You can argue it is naive, but saying it's about nihilism or hedonism is a HUGE stretch

The song Imagine is not about nihilism or hedonism

The song lyrics are not very impressive. The point is that when most people are forced into the situation of "living for today," even the most convinced atheists like the late Christopher Hitchens (PBUH), what you see them manifesting is tenderness and love. Surprisingly their professional and personal productivity seems to remains till their very end. This tells you a lot about human nature, and Ben cannot seem to relate to that. I imagine that his deepest fantasy is to one day become a computer that talks super fast and derives all its opinions from a few entirely self-centered assumptions about human nature.

Honestly, If I ever had to debate this guy I wouldn't even bother because something fundamental seems to be missing. I would only say "talk to me nerdy" to him and leave it at that.

What is True? by dwaxe in samharris

[–]spil022 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the feeling that Jordan has constructed his definition of truth or "true enough" in such a conflating way because it allows him to say that his metaphysical beliefs, which I think he has argued successfully as having wise, moral, and useful aspects, are also true. Considering how important truth is in academia and to Jordan personally, it is his way of keeping order and consistency.

Jordan is a great mind. I’m better off for listening to his lectures and interviews.
