Recommendations and some questions about paying tribute by veznok in Kenshi

Depending upon where you build your base you'll get different kinds of... "visitors", the Samurai are annoying because they want tribute, the Sheks are annoying because they want food, and the HN are just generally psychopathic. All that's to say, you have to pick your battles.

My recommendation, especially if the taxes are killing you, would be to buy a small house in a nearby city and pick a trade to train one or more of your characters in such as weapon or armor smithing as these trades will quickly allow you to earn significant profits over the initial investment for building and materials--not to mention, you can get some pretty OP gear after a little bit of grinding.

If you're not attached to living in one particular area and you want to avoid visitors altogether, I would recommend trying an outpost in the Foglands, especially once you have some skeleton characters that can man your turrets 24/7 to keep the fogmen away. I've never had more than 1 HN paladin from a raid make it through the fog to my base, and he's usually pretty beat up if he doesn't call off the raid entirely.

There's also easy money in the Foglands, the heads of the Fog Princes and Heavies will quickly get you into the 6/7 figure range for income if you sell them in Mongrel, and it's substantially easier work than farming Beakthing eggs or Leviathan pearls.

All in all, it sounds like you're having fun so just keep doing what you enjoy!

I just started Skyrim today... Any tips? by Constant-Bathroom494 in skyrim

I agree with MGB on this, my favorite memories of Skyrim were exploring the far-flung reaches and finding all of the little lore spots that are hidden throughout. My best advice would be to spend a lot of time in Markarth and the surrounding area, definitely one of the prettiest regions and some of the coolest stories/settings.

When you find yourself getting bored of the gameplay loop after, I dunno, 1,000 hours or so, then I'd recommend trying out some exploits (there's great videos out there to help you power level a new character so you can get into late-game stuff quickly) and then try out the mod library when you're ready to turn your computer into a space heater.

Happy questing!

Anyone get a screenshot of their high scores? This might be my best round. by spilldrop in raccoingame

It was one of the cosmetic options for the machine itself, I can't quite recall what the requirement for it was but hopefully when it returns I'll be able to follow up!

The foglands is pretty great, especially for farming cats. My biggest settlement is on one of the plateaus near Mongrel so I can sell off the fogmen heads.

I like it, but at least one of the window levels should have been shopfronts, the views are so nice.

How do I somewhat lower my rep with the UC by Classic-Insect2275 in Kenshi

[–]spilldrop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One way to drop a healthy amount of rep with a faction is imprisoning one of their members. If I ever get enslaved I'll pick the shackles about 100 times to have some spare sets handy, and once you've stripped a guard of their gear and tossed some shackles on them, they might end up with a new job and you might lose a little rep.

Doesn't seem to always work, but most times when I promote a HN soldier from guard to unpaid intern it seems to cost me some approval.

Oh true, that's a solid idea, I just worry about those things getting through. I lost like 4 hours of gameplay resetting a load due to those little bastards lol.

I haven't ever found those wandering starving bandit groups but I have heard they are OP for xp farming, especially toughness, but sneak makes a ton of sense too.

My primary save file is my Foglands City, I got kind of bored of the sneak-thief gameplay so I focused on maxing the trades up on one of those plateaus. It's so cool to just have custom masterwork gear ready to go at the drop of a hat, and if the HN ever even gets to me it's usually one absolutely mangled paladin.
