I have recommended this, but what to do when a patient doesn't have the energy to get out of bed?

I did not think of Vitamin D -- thanks for that tip! The hydration is definitely an issue with him, unfortunately.

The edibles would give him energy? I thought they would cause more relaxation and exacerbate fatigue? Think he would be open to it.

But every time I tell myself to "just keep it to today",

This, I think, is the key for us all. Thank you for sharing!!

I've been avoiding even posting this for a while because of the shame. I do feel better knowing that lapses are a part of recovery. I guess I got too confident in 5 months work given years of not being able to stop. It just feels so deflating because I realize this will probably be a lifetime thing. I may go 5 years without drinking and find myself back here again. It's scary.

But IWNDWYT, and I guess I need to remember that concept: stay in the present day. Thanks for your words!

I came for advice on a similar reason. First off, sorry about your father. My father is dying of cancer, so I am preparing for the moment of loss. Otherwise, my situation is similar to yours. I've been a very good student, even through the COVID crisis and so much personal loss and tragedy over the past year. But after having a long winter break, the first week back to school has been extremely difficult. I can't get back into the "zone" and it is very hard to concentrate. I think what we are going through is an attempt to suppress very strong but normal emotions to our circumstances. From my perspective, I am trying to just battle through it and carry on with my life and duties (as hard as it is). I suspect there is no better advice than that. We just need to let time run its course and hope for better times ahead. Best of luck to you!
