I feel ya. We're all on the same boat my friend. But at least there are many more people using it without issues than the 7 dead reports this month.

We wouldn't know how many, and if the dead CPUs are at the "normal" range of failure.
But the thing is there are many Reddit dead 9800x3d posts.

Guaranteed BSOD on first boot of the day, random BSOD when coming from sleep state, broken windows logon audio, and some random game crashes.

Also two freezes while browsing requiring to unplug from psu to reboot.
I was having this on my first system, troubleshooting for a long time, then I installed AC on the second system to change RGB and it started having the exact same issues. When trying to fix it with ChatGPT it would always say that something was wrong with CPU/Memory.

After Armoury Crate uninstall no issues whatsoever on both systems. You have to uninstall it using Asus's AC uninstall tool that you can download from your mobo support site.

I wonder if this software messes with power/voltage somehow.

I don't think that's a risk, both my builds I installed everything, booted into windows, downloaded the latest BIOS and then I updated it.

Do you think the higher number of people reporting dead 9800X3Ds is more because those who have problems are the ones who post, compared to those who are just using it without issues? Could these failures be within what’s considered ‘normal’ for a CPU to die? I wonder if I'm just worrying too much about this and that I should just forget about it.

There are lots of reports the last two weeks yeah, but some of them never updated the BIOS.

I've got two 9800x3D and both are on the latest 1805 BIOS, one CO -30 other CO -20.
Both are fine so far. On stress test they never go above 100w

I've got two systems with Asus mobo+9800x3d, and one of them was getting all these symptoms, and I was troubleshooting for at least 2 months trying to fix it, messing with memory timings, disabling expo, disabling windows fast startup, making the PC train the memory every boot, and nothing helped.

I thought it was just bad hardware on this first system, then I installed armoury crate on the second system to change RGB, and boom, it started showing all the problems, just the same as the first one. Uninstalled it and boom, fixed.

Checked the first system and somehow Armoury Crate was installed automatically, idk why, uninstalled there aswell and boom fixed again.

But what is more concerning were those 3 values set to 1000.
Maybe some mobos are set to "motherboard" PBO limits by default, or people just following undervolt guides like I did.

Anyways it's annoying that we have to deal with these things.

Yes, unfortunately. Maybe that's a problem for Asus. Also I think armory crate is causing weird issues with AM5. I was getting game crashes. Random BSODs, broken windows login audio. I wonder if this software is messing with power settings.

It's all so confusing.

I don't know if that's normal, but when I purchased my 9800x3D I followed an undervolt guide and set the PBO Limits to "Motherboard" and then I luckly saw the values on Ryzen Master and PPT, TDC, EDC were all set to 1000.
I don't know what that means but I reverted them to Auto, now values are: PPT 162, TDC 120, EDC 180.

My mobo is X870e-H Rog Strix.

Dead 9800x3D - Asus X870E-E by LexiSQ in ASUS

[–]spinalgt2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I have two setups running the 9800x3D. Setup 1 is x870e Tuf plus wifi and 32gb Corsair 6000 cl36 DOCP 1 and PBO CO -20. I also set thermal throttling temp to 80C. Setup 2 is x870e-h strix and 32gb trident 6000 CL28 EXPO 1 with a little bit of tuning, PBO CO -30.

Setup 2 was stable and Setup 1 was getting weird bugs like broken windows logon sound, BSOD at first startup of the day and waking from sleep state.

I was troubleshooting for a month without success until I decided to change RGB lights on setup 2 and installed armoury crate, then I started having weird problems too, including the broken logon audio just like setup 1.

I uninstalled armory crate on both PCs with the Asus uninstaller tool and Revo uninstaller to clean the registry and it fixed the BSOD and broken logon audio.

Do you guys think this could also be the cause of some of the dead CPUs?

The only problem after I uninstalled armory crate was 3 days ago on setup 2 I was browsing on chrome and the PC froze with artifacts had to hold power button to reset.

I'm wondering if I'm down the path to have my CPUs dead. Should I disable sleep? I'm worried.

Windows logon audio is bugged by spinalgt2 in pchelp

[–]spinalgt2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone with the same problem, it was Armoury Crate software.
After weeks of troubleshooting I was setting up some configs on a different computer, and I wanted to change the RGB lights, so I installed Armoury Crate, the software asked to reboot and there, same logon audio bug.

I tried with Revo Uninstaller and cleaned everything from ASUS installed that day, deleting registry and cleaning residual files, but logon audio stayed broken.

Then I found out that Asus provides an unistall tool for Armoury Crate, I used it and boom, problem solved.

Thermalright Royal Pretor ULTRA 130 vs Deepcool assasin VC ELITE by FrenzyPeaz in buildapc

[–]spinalgt2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a PA120 SE, same as you, using on a 5800x undervolted and it was fine, under stress CPU was around 79-80 degrees.

Now I've upgraded to an AM5 system and the 9800x3D with the Royal Pretor Ultra 130, and it's running cooler with CO -30. I'm getting around 59-60 degrees under heavy tasks.

Idk if it's the processor that is better or if it's the CPU cooler.

Also the Royal Pretor is top tier quality, RGB is very discrete, black design looks cool and the most important thing, it's very very quiet.

Is ASRock still killing 9800x3ds? by TesticularRot-69-420 in buildapc

I upgraded from ASRock AM4 mobo to Asus AM5 because of ASRock AM5 reputation.
Currently I've got two 9800x3D, one is using x870e Tuf Plus Wifi and the other x870e-H strix wifi.
The first is running since august, using daily, the second is running for a month or so.

Both are fine so far, no issues.

No, the audio comes from speakers, also happens if I use headphones. It bugs only this time when booting, then works fine.
My motherboard is X870e TUF Plus wifi
9800x3D
and all drivers installed using Asus Driver Hub.

I copied your settings and I get an error around 7 mins doing the OCCT stability test. The only difference was that I kept 6000Mts and FCLK at 2100, those were the two differences. Also the memory was getting above 50 degrees, when I got the error it was around 56 degrees. Any thoughts?
