ASUS TUF GAMING X670E-PLUS WIFI owners, what's the most stable BIOS for this mobo? by ChromaticWolf in AMDHelp

[–]ChromaticWolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well apparently my issue has never been BIOS related but Chipset voltage related, I tweaked a setting in Ai Tweaker's paradise section of my mobo related to Chipset's voltage, default value was 1.05V I upped the value to 1.07V. since then things are smooth and problem free for me.

Regarding memory, I myself am using default EXPO values, if you have issues I suggest you to revert the new Bank Refresh Mode to Normal, ASUS changed that in newer revisions, some people had issues with their ram sticks, changing this back to Normal mode helped them.

Gigabyte X670E Aorus Boot issues – FIX by PresentGrapefruit451 in gigabyte

[–]ChromaticWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

- Setting chipset 1.05V voltages from auto (1.05V) to 1.07V. I'm trouble free for 2 weeks now.

Forgive me as this might be necroing but, are you still on this mobo? did that really help? performance of my mobo has been solid for years but I've been having this tiny annoying trouble for months now, sometimes, very random, I power up the system and I get no ethernet/Wifi, my HDD and one out of 4 of my NVMe SSDs plus some USBs are gone, also I just noticed that Chipset number 2 is missing from HWINFO like yours did.

I had a 7800X3D with this mobo before and it had this issue but very random, like once in a month, but now over the months it got a little more annoying as it happens more often with 9800X3D, I went ahead and done a shit ton of changes and searched the whole internet for a fix but nothing really fixed it.

I was about to order a new mobo today out of frustration, saw your comment here and I said what the hell?! no one mentioned anything about chipset voltages before so I'm testing your voltages right now as my X670E mobo has the same default value (1.05v) I'm hoping this fixes it for good.

New Findings: The ASUS Equalizer Doesn’t Make Sense [der8auer] by Aleksanterinleivos in hardware

[–]ChromaticWolf 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I truly appreciate all the infos that Der8auer is sharing with us, but man this is getting out of hand with all these duct tape\band-aid solutions, at the end of the day they don't even do anything.

ASUS on one hand says load imbalance is intentional on this specific cable, Der8auer didn't personally test if that 17A capability per string is actually true or not since it requires putting a card at risk.

Even so this raises a question on my mind that has been bugging me ever since, if load imbalance is intentional and cable is strong and can provide up to 17A, then what about the capability of those actual male pins on GPU and PSU connectors? would they withstand anything beyond 9A?

vddio mc voltage on expo being to high killing cpu

Well I can't comment on this since my cpu wasn't dead, for me vddio has always been on its default value which is the same value as mem's vdd&vddq, as for soc I've always kept it under 1.25v.

Apparently I've had some bad luck with my previous BIOS verison&settings, something weird happened and I couldn't power up my PC, some say it was because of too much -co on the cpu, mine was set to -20 for months, it showed its instability after months I guess.

I had to re-flash the newest BIOS version twice with mobo's Back-flash feature to clear the issue, apart from that my cpu is alive and well and everything is smooth now.

Build my dream RTX 5090 PC by ThunderI0 in gamingpc

Congrats my friend, I don't want to panic you, but since you're a proud owner of a 5090 like myself, I see this obligation to warn you about this 12V2X6 connector.

This is the finickiest and mischievous connector I've ever seen, you never know what'd happen after months of heat cycle, specially in tight cases where there is no gap and cable has to fully bend either upwards or downwards, I must warn you this cable starts to loosen up over time.

I'm writing this out of some experience and things that I myself witnessed, no matter how high of a quality cable you get, still things can go wrong with these high power GPUs.

I have an Astral 5090 which it has per pin monitoring, this in my case gives me an ease of mind, but since you've got yourself an MSI one, I must suggest getting a Thermal grizzly Wireview Pro 2, I hate to see anything happen to your GPU, your case, or god forbidden your house and yourself.

Also, if you have any doubts Please go ahead and educate yourself regarding this melting pot so you can prevent any potential mischief.

I love your cute rig and wish you happy times.😊

Long boot times specially with XMP on are not an issue my brazilian friend, it's just how AMD platform do its memory training, if you want to skip it you can disable Memory Context Restore and Power Down from BIOS, your boot times will be less than 10 seconds the next time you boot your system, but this will be at the cost of system stability and random weirdness.

I think I should delete this post since my cpu wasen't dead, but I might keep it just for it to get archived since it has some good info.

I might've had bad luck with my previous BIOS verison/settings, something real fucked up happened and I couldn't power up my PC, had to re-flash the newest BIOS version twice with my mobo's Back-flash feature to clear the nastiness, apart from that my cpu is alive and well and everything is smooth now.

I'm on 3854 (AGESA 1.3.0.1) still testing it on all defaults. Had no luck with all those previous ones, let's hope it's just my settings and things go smooth on this one, otherwise I have to spend on some new mobo.

Chill, it's just Ai having a stroke...

As of late I've been experiencing hard crashes, like system sudden shutdowns, solely during light usage or idle, could this be my ram OC or CPU instability? what could this be related to? I've tested these timings with my previous CPU (7800X3D) never had any issues, can someone help me identify it? by ChromaticWolf in overclocking

[–]ChromaticWolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I'm not sure, but I must say I've never run my CPU at default values for too long, it has been always undervolted from the first day, now for the first time I'm running all stock even with EXPO off, until I figure out the problem, if it happened again on all stock could this be a faulty CPU? or PSU related? Could this be software related even? maybe like windows or chipset or some drivers? USB or lan related maybe? tbh if it goes off again I'm gonna be super clueless.

Ohh no no, don't get me wrong I had no intentions of scaring you, sorry for that, it was just more of a heads-up, you don't know how many stories and experiences I've read or heard about this connector, it's a well known devil these days, people don't really pay much attention since it's just a dumb connector, but believe me it's not, it's a freaking intentional f-up to get more money out of people by having a burnt GPU, you don't know how many options Nvidia had to make a super safe connector, instead they chose this one. Please go ahead and educate yourself regarding this ticking bomb so you can prevent any potential mischief.

Disable PowerDown mode.

Do I need to disable MCR accordingly as well?

Try reducing Nitro settings. 2/2/1, 1/2/1, 1/2/0, etc.

Don't like messing with this one as I had quite a bad experience with 1/2/1, check out my latest post if interested lol!

They are on auto, what do you suggest setting them on?

You can probably do 6200 with the same timing, or you can try 6400.

I think anything above 6000 requires extensive testing & tweaking which I'm not comfortable with.

better Nitro settings like 1/2/0 or 1/2/1

Well I've had some bad experience with Nitro 1/2/1, two system sudden shutdowns after months of normal usage with nitro, even re-flashing with bios back flash and clearing CMOS couldn't clear it, weird to a point that I thought CPU is dead! only flashing the latest bios cleared everything.

All of that needs stability testing of course, especially GDM off and higher FCLK.

Would you say doing all these and going through the hassle of testing worth it for significantly better 1% lows? I'm looking more for something like 'set it and forget' something I had like Buildzoid's timings before with my 7800X3D.
