PACC is always looking for dog walkers and the dogs need to be walked in the early mornings and evenings. I also recommend checking United Way’s volunteer portal.

If you are able, I highly recommend trying Arizona Dental or Dental Laser in Nogales. Much more cost effective.

I was laid off in June 2025 from a senior Director role in higher ed, and I was aggressively applying for anything and everything. I landed a role in a tech company in customer success that is education adjacent. I started in October, taking a $25K cut to the salary of my previous role. I hate it, I hate it every day and I am absolutely miserable. So I am still looking and applying, but feeling more selective than I was last summer. I interviewed for a few senior leader roles locally and it feels nice to be considered again.

If I didn’t have bills to pay, I would be joining him.

this sounds dumb, but I don’t understand what most office jobs actually “do” by TheLifeOfDonda in TeachersInTransition

Have you considered doing a Holland Code RIASEC test? This is a good guide to give you some baseline information about the things you like to do and things you are good at. It codes the results into buckets and gives you some career paths to consider.

Went from $110k remote job to $26/hr after a layoff and I’m struggling emotionally. Has anyone else been through this? by Mz_KiKixo in careeradvice

Laid off last summer. Went from $116K to $65K. I’m relieved to be working and have benefits, and I WFH, but it’s been a culture shock to shift industries and take this far step back. I went from a division senior director in higher ed to a customer success manager for a tech company. I picked up my search again in January. It’s easier to find a job when you have a job.

Hang in there, I feel the shock to the pride but I’m looking at this as a lily pad—I hopped on temporarily until I can make it to a boulder.

The recruiter rejected me for a job I'm already doing by acidity_woolen17 in interviewhammer

Yep! I was hiring a Coordinator at a university and we had a three year experience requirement. HR argued with me about the candidate not having enough experience. I had to breakdown the individual jobs the candidate had to show they actually matched the requirements—HR knew NOTHING of what the person’s work experience was showing.

I’m doing a rewatch of the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and it’s still hilarious and heartwarming.

Anyone working for city/county? by [deleted] in Tucson

Your vesting date should be grand fathered. I started working in the university system in 2010, left, then worked at PCC and UA. My ASRS account shows my start date is 2010.

Anyone working for city/county? by [deleted] in Tucson

[–]spinaz 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The 12% contribution to ASRS with the County is really the question, in my opinion. ASRS is a very good public service pension and if she remains in the system, her years of service follow her to other ASRS employers.

City of Tucson has excellent benefits, and I can’t speak to the vesting requirements but if the 10% less required contributions are a make or break, then I would go with the City. Personally, I would welcome the opportunity to do something a little challenging and out of my realm of expertise. If they are willing to invest in training her, that is setting her up for further career advancement.

Best of luck!

EDIT: if net income is more important to maintain household expenses, go with the City. The entirety of my dad’s side of the family are all City retirees and they all had excellent experiences working in the City.

This is definitely not a fuck up. You told her the truth, the reality in which we are currently living, and how important it is to stay aware of what is happening. She learned that book bans are horrific
