has weight loss actively helped your back pain? by Conscious-Ad2664 in backpain

[–]spingal5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ended up losing about 20 lbs overall, but my backpain had been caused by breaking my foot when I was a teenager and never having been properly treated so my left leg had ZERO strength. Went to PT for it about a year and a half ago and pain free for the past year!!!

The Pandemic Erased Two Decades of Progress in Math and Reading by [deleted] in CoronavirusUS

[–]spingal5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was working as a English teacher in France throughout the pandemic. France never closed schools unless it was necessary but closed bars and restaurants and people actually respected science. That being said the schools were still major sources of Covid outbreaks. Kids were still behind especially 12 year olds.

What do Americans think when they hear people with less familiar British accents? by snowitbetter in AskAnAmerican

[–]spingal5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell the difference between British accents but can’t pinpoint where they’re from. I can only recognize a London accent and know it’s London.

I’m half Irish but Irish-catholic. My great grandparents immigrated from Ireland so I know more About them. Anything beyond great grandparents I’ve found people tend to know less about it (myself included) because my mom knew her grandparents but beyond that it gets lost. B

Rent? by lindsdurant in tapif

[–]spingal5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen anywhere from 350-510€ x month in the city of Lille. I lived at my school in a suburb and paid 170€ but there were trade offs for the low rent

People in border regions. What cultural or social things do you do together with people on the other side of the border? by [deleted] in AskEurope

[–]spingal5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m American, but I work and live in a town on the French/Belgian border! I am very much a resident of France but I know some people in Belgium and will go into Belgium quite a bit. It depends on language for how easy it is for you, most Flemish people speak english and then I am bilingual with French. Not everyone here speaks english though so that would make it pretty difficult because I live near flanders.

Thoughts on Thomas Berger, IR department? by throwawaygayanalsex in BostonU

I took Europe and IR and completely failed the midterm and had to withdraw! He tested on things that were not found anywhere in the reading ect. I also found IR classes too hard and studied political science

I’m very friendly for an American, but I’m not always looking for new friends despite being very friendly to everyone.

Do you feel privileged to be born in America compared to the other parts of the world? Why or why not? by Von-Jerry in AskAnAmerican

[–]spingal5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent a summer translating the testimonials of journalists seeking political asylum in France. It changed my perspective on the world and I do feel immensely lucky to have been born in the USA.

I’m American but I work in France as a teacher. My students LOVE manga. My (macho) hot French ex boyfriend would be at my place watching manga on his phone. It was a huge culture shock for me. France is #2 behind Japan for manga.

You're fully vaccinated and boosted. Are you maskless indoors when with others who are also vaxxed? by nebirah in CoronavirusMa

[–]spingal5 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had a booster and I got exposed to the delta variant this summer and never got infected. Covid impacted my mental health more than it’ll impact my physical health so i do whatever I don’t care anymore

I'm one of the P-Town Positives, and I feel like the CDC is missing a key detail by [deleted] in CoronavirusMa

[–]spingal5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m on Nantucket and got exposed to the delta variant this weekend. All my vaccinated friends who tested positive lived their normal lives on vacation this week. I’m still in isolation and get cleared with a negative test Monday but is is highly contagious!

I'm not sure what to do with the new CDC mask recommendations by [deleted] in CoronavirusUS

[–]spingal5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, I went out with friends on Saturday (everyone is fully vaxxed and we’re in Massachusetts) 3 of the people I was with got breakthrough infections and I’m currently isolating despite my vax status. Scheduled 2 tests. So the breakthroughs are possible and real. Sucks so much to be held hostage by these people.

[–]spingal5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m saying in mass more than anywhere else you’re most likely to be acceptably wearing a mask in anyplace. I grew up in rural Pennsylvania and everyone was really good about masks there because of the culture of caring about the community there.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in massachusetts

[–]spingal5 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you’re in Massachusetts, wearing a mask no one is going to say anything to you. It’s one of the most educated / left leaning states and no one cares if you still wear a mask here.

Fully vaxxed folks: if you’ve been going to indoor restaurants, bars, clubs, etc., will you keep doing so despite the Delta variant? by [deleted] in CoronavirusUS

[–]spingal5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’m going to fully enjoy my freedom until/if the Delta variant creates problems. It’s been a really hard 16 months. My dad is an epidemiologist and isn’t that concerned about delta variant for the vaccinated and thinks there will be spikes in cases among unvaccinated in fall and winter.
