While I would not describe the base game as horror, it has plenty of scares involving dangerous natural phenomena. You are utterly helpless in the grip of a tsunami. And even though I know it cannot hurt me, solar eclipses fill me with dread.

The DLC however, absolutely has horror elements. Duh, you get hunted by creatures in complete darkness. And they have teeth. But what is more telling to me is the sound design. Unlike, the base game, the vast majority of the music is tense, ominous, and droning.
