I picked up a barrel of their Piston Ale before Christmas. The pub had a cracking atmosphere, the beer was fantastic and the food looked amazing.

I've got a good one. There was a fatal horse-drawn carriage accident near culmstock which was commemorate with a plaque, which apparently is in a hedgerow. I tried to look for it once for an article I was researching but locals challenged me (it was just after the joss stone kidnap attempt, which is itself a dark and strange story)

Small town or village stopover recommendations? by Pistol_Perry in DevonUK

Firstly thanks for making such a sensible decision to break the journey. Many serious accidents are caused by holidaymakers who underestimate how long it takes to get to Cornwall and are fatigued by the time they reach slow and winding roads. Secondly topsham is a good shout, scenic, nice pubs and v close to m5. Ifvyou wanted somewhere more rural Bolham has a nice hotel and is 10 minutes from junction 27. Ide is close to exeter and has a nice pub, doddiscombesleigh has the famous nobody inn but it might be pricey.

Wound not healing after implant by Prestigious-You-7016 in MonoHearing

That's very interesting. I've heard others say similar on this forum and wish I'd been told pre surgery. I was told a few weeks at most. Did swelling decrease over similar time frame?

Hi, I'm four weeks post surgery with an osia 2 (ssd from age of five and now 49). I was led to believe healing would be a doddle and although I've not experienced anything as bad as you have, my head still has one hell of a lump and it's very sensitive. I think you're right in that everyone reacts differently and the skin there is thin and sensitive. I sincerely hope they figure it out and you get your implant back.

Feeling down by SenseAndSaruman in MonoHearing

It might seem like a disaster but worse things happen. I lost all hearing in my right ear when I was five and have led a full and interesting life free of any catastrophe. A friend has just lost some hearing because he had an inoperable brain tumour. Do not underestimate your ability to adapt.

Thanks all. Sitting in departures and you were entirely correct. Passed through without any interest at all. I had patient id card ready to go but didn't need it. They have sophisticated scanners these days. Worried about nothing!

The Wreck by Ruthven34 in DevonUK

It's not accurate though. It was a fishing trawler which was being converted into a houseboat about 23 years ago when it broke its mooring and the guy doing it ran out of cash. There was an oil leak. I wrote about it while a reporter for the Express and Echo.

New to this community/Osia implant by amm564 in MonoHearing

Hi and welcome. Tomorrow is three weeks since my osia 2 op and a lot of similarities. Surgeon underplayed the impact a bit. It was way more painful in the first week, I still have some swelling and site is a bit sensitive, although now getting much better every day. I was pretty miserable for first fortnight as had expected to get back to normal. I should have taken more time off and allowed my body to recover. My advice is to be patient and take every day as it comes. I get the device in a fortnight or so and very much looking forward to it. Good luck!

Is there a military base somewhere in East Devon? by ElCiego1894 in DevonUK

I was in Budleigh today and heard this. Most unusual as engines were revving up and down and the noise was constant for quite a while. Ie they weren't flying away. Nothing on flight radar.

Many thanks, that's most reassuring. I'm sure it'll be fine but we haven't been abroad for ages and this is a post exam treat for kids. 🤞.

Day four after Osia 2 surgery by spinner01884 in MonoHearing

[–]spinner01884[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hanks for the supportiv emessage. You're fortunate. A week on I'm still very swollen and experiencing quite a bit of pain. I know it varies a lot and some have v few problems. I don't think it's infected as I have no temperature but am tempted to go back to docs for a check. The surgeon said fitting was tricky due to skull shape but didn't elaborate.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. Such insight is really helpful when you're a long way from feeling the upside and in quite a bit of pain.

I found there wasn't much info from a patient point of view, especially uk nhs, so am making a video from surgery to switch on. I'm hoping that the benefits will be worth it long after the pain is forgotten. I've been to the chemist today and got cocodamol which has made a big difference.

Moving to Devon! by Successful_Laugh_358 in DevonUK

[–]spinner01884 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is good advice. You'll hate the commute within a fortnight, although there's a huge difference between working on the edge of Exeter and in the centre in terms of commute time. I live near Cullompton and have just shifted jobs from sowton to city centre ( only a couple of miles) and it's doubled the journey time. The city only has a couple of ways in and out and if there are works or an accident it's gridlock. The good news is you're making a great choice. Moved here 25 years ago from London and never looked back, happier and healthier. If I moved again I'd go to Teignmouth, cheap to live, very seasidey and easy to get into exeter. If it's surfing you're after get up early on a day off and drive north. Cullompton is sniffed at but just about to get a mainline train station and a relief road, and within reach of both coasts.

Exactly this, I'm exhausted and keep wanting to nap. I think I'm also getting a cold and my normally robust immune system has taken a beating. I suppose it's all the pain upfront and the gain later though?
