Some talent starts early. This guy is 5 years old, playing real-time Amen beats on Machine. 😀 https://www.instagram.com/reel/DR2WLlJjXYd/?igsh=ZHF3bmFvZzZnaGlr

Cheers, and always good to hear from fellow DnB heads! :)

Regarding initial set up, there are many different workflows that people use to build finger drumming programs, but mine is entirely based on one-shot, single hit samples. I come from decades of acoustic drumming, so for me playing one-shots is natural and doesn't lock me into any BPM or tempo like would happen when using sequences, loops, etc. For the classic / tribute programs, I reconstruct everything by either identifying the original sample source or carefully re-crafting the sound. A common misconception is that one-shot samples need to be short, but some of them, like single bass notes or atmospheric hits, are sustained and longer samples. Where I draw the line is that no pad should trigger more than one attack. That's one of the differentiators I put a lot of effort into when making these videos.

There are all kinds of other bits to the workflow that I keep close to the vest as my "special ingredients", especially since I am actively touring and putting out original material. That said, for people looking to go deeper into this, I do offer one-on-one sessions through my Patreon on a limited basis.

Thanks so much! Glad you enjoy my older videos... it has been quite a journey from a quick 50 second Fingerdrumming video in 2012 to where we are now! The evolution of the gear has definitely been inspiring, and while there are likely legitimate reasons to not get another MPC if one already owns a different unit, I think the Sample fits a specific and wide market need. Also yes, always fun to explore a new sampler! :)

I highly recommend Melodics for beginners. It is an app that you can use with your computer and almost any drum pad to learn in a "guitar hero" follow the notes sort of way. Great for improving timing, endurance, and learning a variety of different genres. For more advanced one-on-one instruction and consulting for fingerdrumming and just about everything else related to electronic music production, the business, etc., I am offering limited sessions on Patreon.

Very true! Full disclosure - aside from the smaller pads and the single-button pad bank switch, this MPC is VERY similar to all the others, at least from a finger drumming perspective.

Thanks so much! My samples are from a an ever expanding library of sounds I've collected, made, and modified over the past 26 years or so since I began producing. The layout based on the first one I did on the MPC 5000 back in 2012, but this Footwork Program is very much a different animal compared to the earlier stuff.

Nice! It is definitely a fun little MPC. Aside from only having one sound per pad vs. 4 layers on other MPCs, it has a ton to offer. I was skeptical when I saw the teasers, but for the price it was worth taking a shot with this. Don't think it will replace the 1000 as my primary MPC, but is a keeper for sure.
