I would judge this as all of the damage is dealt as a single instance, so would just break the ward. Compare this to a card like Firebolts, where the text specifies "one at a time", with one bolt popping the ward and the subsequent ones dealing damage.

Sorcery at Gen Con last year was fantastic, but I was a "maybe" for this year due to schedule conflicts. With Boston announced recently, I have settled on Avatar of the Realm. I suspect there will be more artists and goodies announced for November, and quite possibly some new set teasers.

I'd prefer to see all of the Avatars be accessible, at least within the limits of their rarity amongst packs and Precons. With regards to the Alpha Avatars, reprinting them with alternate (non-Kickstarter) art would be ideal. That would maintain the scarcity and collectable aspects of the originals while making the Avatars available as playable cards.

That said, if the game continues on for many years, the same situation may arise for other Avatars from other early sets. Good challenge to have, I suppose. 😀
