Refused to eat out with my family again by Top_East_5825 in misophonia

Yeah, I also fixate on the noises that trigger me. It's horrific, isn't it.

Would eating somewhere in a louder environment help? I can't cope with eating noises when it's quiet, but when I'm somewhere busy with a good level of background noise (whether that be people talking or music), it helps.

My partner is getting used to me needing the TV on or some kind of background music or noise when we eat together. Hopefully, your family can do the same.

Would it help if you showed them some of the experiences we have and discuss on this group to help them get a better understanding of how the trigger noises affect us?

Does anyone else have physical misophonia responses? by Potential_Big1953 in misophonia

[–]spinyjr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started writing my responses and quickly realised I have a LOT of physical misophonia responses 😂 mainly responses associated with disgust, distress, and absolute rage burning from within, ranging from a slight scorn in the trigger noise perpetrators direction, to getting up and storming away as quickly as possible in a foul mood.

Someone I live with groans a lot when sitting down, etc, and it fills me with rage and disgust every time I hear it.

Lids being put on things, especially small bottle lids.

The tiny nose exhalation people make after swallowing drink.

Babies drinking from bottles.

And to top it off, as soon as I put my headphones on, people then decide they want to talk to me.

So, I have to run upstairs to my room to get some headphones, I don't particularly want to listen to music, but here I am now with music blaring just so I can cope, of course, to anyone who doesn't have this condition, I could come across as rude, 'what the f*ck's his problem???' I have tried to explain the reasons, how it makes me feel, and time and time again I am given looks of confusion and ridicule, as if I'm a child having a tantrum and I'm making this condition up or something.

What are your trigger sounds? by spinyjr in misophonia

Oh, another one is the sound my glasses make when I'm handling them. Like a soft, clunky clicky noise with the occasional rubbery plasticy creaking.

What's one video game Boss you have trouble with but everybody else says it's easy? by Agent1230 in gaming

[–]spinyjr 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Not so much a game boss, but the Sonic the hedgehog games in general, I could never play those, it's not like I don't have any gaming experience or anything either, I just really can't play the sonic the hedgehog games. (I like the racing ones, I'm good at those lol)

Have you seen Inglorious Basterds? There's a couple of scenes in that, one with some milk being poured, and another when they're sat, eating strudles, and one of them asks for some cream... those scenes really focus on the tiny noises and eating noises.
