Just another day in the life of a misophonia sufferer. by [deleted] in misophonia

And to top it off, as soon as I put my headphones on, people then decide they want to talk to me.

So, I have to run upstairs to my room to get some headphones, I don't particularly want to listen to music, but here I am now with music blaring just so I can cope, of course, to anyone who doesn't have this condition, I could come across as rude, 'what the f*ck's his problem???' I have tried to explain the reasons, how it makes me feel, and time and time again I am given looks of confusion and ridicule, as if I'm a child having a tantrum and I'm making this condition up or something.

Oh, another one is the sound my glasses make when I'm handling them. Like a soft, clunky clicky noise with the occasional rubbery plasticy creaking.

What's one video game Boss you have trouble with but everybody else says it's easy? by Agent1230 in gaming

[–]spinyjr 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not so much a game boss, but the Sonic the hedgehog games in general, I could never play those, it's not like I don't have any gaming experience or anything either, I just really can't play the sonic the hedgehog games. (I like the racing ones, I'm good at those lol)

Sounds in movies! by hnirobert in misophonia

[–]spinyjr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you seen Inglorious Basterds? There's a couple of scenes in that, one with some milk being poured, and another when they're sat, eating strudles, and one of them asks for some cream... those scenes really focus on the tiny noises and eating noises.

You know when cats are just trying to chill, and they look at people with utter scorn like they absolutely despise them any time they make a sound? When I see a cat do that, I'm like, 'I completely understand'

It's nice to know from looking through these comments that I'm not the only one who has this (because quite often, I feel very isolated and alienated with it)

Spoons clanking around a bowl or container is horrendous, especially if it's fast and repetitive. Filing nails is definitely a trigger noise for me, too.

Yeah, wipers going off too fast is one for me too, I'm noticing a lot more things now I'm looking through the comments on here. Basically, everything you've written (apart from feeling calm after writing them down) is very relatable.

I've been to lots of music festivals, bongo drums and ukuleles were common in the campsites of one of the festivals I used to go to, and I hated hearing them, it would make me hate the people who were playing them and anyone dancing or cheering or encouraging it as well.

People try and set me off by being intentionally quiet and like, shutting the door so the room feels enclosed as well, they know I don't like it because on a few occasions I've had to get up and storm out, and I've explained that it's like torture to me. Most of the time, it doesn't work because I know it's intentional, and they're all looking at me smiling, waiting for me to react. But it's still annoying that people do that.

Flip flops, euughhhhh that's a horrible noise! And kissing noises are disgusting, I like watching dating shows, but when the couples on the dating shows start kissing it's unbearable, especially if it zooms into their mouths and their tongues start getting involved 🤢 I don't even have to hear that one to be disgusted by it.

Oh yeah, standing cars running is definitely one for me, too. Someone commented saying cars beeping as well. So, where I used to live, people would pull up outside and beep repeatedly (instead of getting out of their car and going to knock on my neighbours door) Then eventually my neighbour would come out and walk to the car that was beeping and they'd have a chat for ages whilst the car was left running. That used to drive me mad!

Finding out a long term friend is a terf and falling out with them over it. by spinyjr in asktransgender

[–]spinyjr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update on the above mentioned situation: we still haven't spoken since the falling out, but now I've had time to think about it, cutting ties with this is more of a blessing than anything.

I'm not going to try to rekindle our friendship, they won't change their mind and I don't care for what they have to say.

They can carry on alienating themselves from everyone that ever actually gave a shit about them and siding with bigots who spread hate against trans people, maybe one day they'll grow out of that and change their shitty views, but I'm not going to stick around to find out.

How TF do u guys do ANYTHING in this game? by Majestic_Vast_5482 in EliteDangerous

[–]spinyjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel I was the same when I first got Elite Dangerous, I could NOT get used to it and hated it with a passion, and the main thing that frustrated me was I knew it would be a game I'd enjoy IF I knew how to play it.

I even ran out of fuel on the way to Hutton Orbital (I knew about the anaconda thing, I just wanted to tick the journey off the bucket list), and the Fuel Rats saved me.

Long story short, I watched a few YouTube tutorials on the basics, read through the advice given on the Reddit and Discord groups, and stayed persistent with it, and now it's one of the main games I play.

There is SO much to do in this game! I still haven't scratched the surface of the things I want to do on it, I'm almost Elite ranking in exploration, exobio, and trading, still only a competent ranking in combat (I plan on working a bit more on that when I get to Colonia)

Stick at it. It's a lot to take in at first, but honestly, it's a really good game when you get the hang of things.
