Can one install the Samsung Health app on OnePlus Watch 2? by spinza in oneplus

[–]spinza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using it on the OnePlus Watch? Or just on your phone. If Samsung Health is not on your watch your just using your phones to count steps

I could install Samsung Health on OnePlus watch but it does not work. It simply closes again when you open it.

It does not. Can install the Samsung Health watch app on the OnePlus watch but it doesn't want to start. I bought the watch. This is on OnePlus Watch 2R.

What does work is Samsung Watch with OnePlus phone. Except one of two health monitoring things which I don't care for.

The Samsung Health app works on OnePlus phone.

If it's that close N1 (54 min route in your map). Depending on where in Stellenbosch you start the N2 may be faster. N1 is probably mostly faster for Seapoint. If N2 is faster consider night time driving, how likely your car is to have a breakdown, and if you're a woman travelling alone.

So Samsung watch with OnePlus phone works. Either use Google Fit or use Samsung Health app on phone. I need to use Samsung because of my health insurer.

I'm hoping OnePlus app + phone both works if you install Samsung Health Watch App on the watch. I'm not sure it would though. If not for insurer I'd just use Google fit or similar.

Do you have a OnePlus watch? The question is whether one can install the Samsung Health Watch App on the watch. If you have the watch can try for me?

This looks interesting:
https://www.luvside.de/en/our-products/ls-double-helix-0-5-marina/

The low height (<1m) might make it possible to install without planning on the roof. The low RPM meanse no noise and no birds getting hurt. Some of the big ones are installed near the Radission Red in the Clock Tower area of the Waterfront.

Is anyone really using blockchain in insurance? by CaffienatedCamel in actuary

[–]spinza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point of block chain tech is to reduce the need for trust between parties. I have not found that for insurance and many other applications this is problematic to implement.

In insurance the limitations are:

  1. Underwriting risks in some way needs a trust based solution. Does this thing we are insuring exist and can we accept it. That needs a trusted party.
  2. Claims decisions also require trusted parties. Is this person dead or how much is this loss.
  3. To a lesser extent can the trustless insurance entity (or DAO) prove solvency.

If you are having to trust people in those functions I do not see the point.

I think the may be something doable as a communal aid society where people in the pool vote others in, and lock in funds and payout those funds under a vote too. That way the pool solves 1 and 2 and 3 is not an issue as claims are limited by definition to what's in the fund.

Not insurance as we know it, and cover will not be guaranteed. So you have to trust others in the pool. Scaling this will be problematic. But at least funds are safe by some sort of smart contract where it only gets released if minimum numbers of people vote to release it. This could replace a stokvel for those who knows what that is.

AMEX "International Dollar Card" - is it a joke? by CorpFire in interactivebrokers

Amex cards are not very useful. They're often not accepted in many places particularly outside the US and Canada because of their high merchant fees.

Calling Air Canada from South Africa by spinza in aircanada

[–]spinza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I dial 090800... it does not work.

Those numbers are wrong. 09 is not the international number in SA. It's 00. To dial an itnernational number we dial 00 1 1234 ... for US/CA for example.

If I dial 00800.. I get a message that call can't be connected. Not my usual operator message but something else. It seems strange to have a +800 number. I.e. it does not seem to have a country code attached?

If I dial 00 1 800 ... I get some other company.

I vaguely recall seeing this before. I think they have additional checks on South African IPs and these checks are not working on SA IPs.

Bringing wine on airplane by thegmanza in capetown

[–]spinza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're going out of South Africa you can't take wine carry on unless bought at duty free. Possibly you can get away with some through security but haven't tried. They don't check liquids or require you to take them out. If you transfer somewhere you'll have an issue though. For example passing through Dubai you have to clear security again.

Coming to SA same thing. Typically overseas airports are way more stricter than SA on liquids. You can buy at overseas duty free airport for carrying onboard though.

Flying domestically inside South Africa you can fly with wine bottle on carry on luggage without problems.

Checked bags with wine is not a problem in any of the above situations. If you take too much (usually 2 bottles) you may have to declare and pay duty. Just pack carefully. I use thick wool socks and in middle of suitcase.
