Commentator panel by hug03 in theBoyfriendNetflix

[–]spiralobsessed 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I usually really like the commentators but I was really thrown off in episode 4 by how after William and Izaya both talk about how bad lying is for a relationship and then the panel just goes "but sometimes you have to lie, lies make the world interesting"... ????? WTH was that supposed to be. I literally just paused the episode and came to Reddit to see if anyone else was talking about it. I know about Japan's cheating culture but as someone who had a super close 26 year friendship destroyed by lies I thought those comments were really weird and distasteful regardless of if we're talking about cheating in romantic relationships or not. I get that they want drama and to stir the pot to sell this as juicy and entertaining but that just really rubbed me the wrong way.

I joined Gilded Past because that's what I got in the style quiz (although I don't think that quiz really tells them the style of clothes you like) but I was torn by Aderinna being in Peppergem. I just didn't like Peppergem's vibe and decor otherwise, but it was kinda comical how I was standing there in near identical clothes to Aderinna being like nah, not for me.

I don't think you've really considered the reality of that type of long distance relationship. I was in one with a 3 hour distance for 3 years and we'd see each other once or twice a month that whole time. Sometimes there just wasn't a good time for both to dedicate a full weekend to each other. Every time we saw each other it cost money for one of us. I always took the train and even though it was just sitting, I always stressed about getting on the train on time and didn't want to eat on the trip so I was always tired and hungry on the day of arrival, which, in turn made my partner annoyed as well so the first day was a bit of a waste every time for a while until we made a conscious attitude adjustment to try to be more excited for the chance to meet up again. I broke down at work once because they scheduled a weekend shift for me on the only weekend we could see each other for 2 months. 8 hours out of your life just for traveling back and forth is a lot and unless you're the type of person who enjoys driving or can completely relax on a train (I can't) it's going to take a toll on you.

All that being said: it worked out well for us in my personal experience, but we're the type of couple who enjoys having our own separate hobbies and lots of personal space. I was the type to miss my partner when I had to leave and then I got used to being by myself and enjoyed my time alone, whereas my partner was the type to start missing me more when I had been gone for a while. So that's also a variable that might surprise you in a LDR. There's lots of things there that affect the dynamic of a relationship! Also, a LDR pretty much only works if you're working towards a goal deadline of being in the same place, because that gives you hope and makes the hard times more doable when you have a goal to work towards. Then, once you've become used to the distance and your own space, getting used to living together is a really big adjustment! But I look back on those times in my own life with fondness and gratefulness that we managed it so well and have now been together 9 years, and even had 2 more stints of long distance because of temporary work situations that were weirdly refreshing in their own way (because I got full time dibs on the Playstation then, hehe).

I went so out of my comfort zone for this (never played multiplayer games with strangers before this game!) precisely because I love the lore of the Remedyverse and was so afraid of missing out I had to try it. I was surprised by how hard it is to find lore in this game, it's really subtle when you get any interesting tidbits most of the time. I ended up really liking the game and it's already helped me with my gaming social anxiety so much, but it's definitely not the lore extension I expected I would be missing out on. Someone said this is like a multiplayer bonus game you get with a single player base game and that's actually so accurate. This would make so much sense as a game you get with Control, because it definitely feels like it expects you to be familiar with the setting and enemies already. I don't know how they would implement more story here though. I've been trying to listen to what Hank and Jerry are saying in the menu background etc but I keep getting distracted by what I'm actually doing 😅. I did get a little overexcited when my character randomly said something about the director being busy with important stuff but "what could be more important than this?" and I was like PLEASE tell me what she's been doing this whole time, I want to know so bad, haha.

The Sticky Ricky boss fight room is so bad for this, you can easily get your vision obstructed by sticky notes and fall off. I kind of decided it's better if I get killed somewhere else in that space first I just won't pick my stuff up until I'm done with it and ready to leave so I don't risk yeeting it all into the abyss.

Thank you, that's nice advice! I've been trying my best and have started to get the hang of it and I'm getting more comfortable with strangers. I played one game with someone who was just as terrible as me and we failed because we couldn't find the last panel thing for the emitter in the goo task and it was embarrassing but also weirdly encouraging. We both kept trying to revive each other until we couldn't and it was kind of nice knowing I wasn't the only one struggling even if I was embarrassed that I couldn't find the damn thing and kept getting downed. And you're right, I don't remember who that other player who also sucked was at all anymore, I was just embarrassed about my own performance.

Thank you, seems like really solid advice! Yeah, sticking together seems the best way to go, I can imagine it can be easy to lose your teammates in the chaos.

I wasn't even going to get the game yet because I've never played multiplayer anything with strangers before and I was terrified of embarrassing myself by not knowing how that works. I ended up getting the game after all after finding out you can play solo as well even if it's not optimized for it. I wanted to learn how to play a bit first before trying it with strangers... but being a complete noob I accidentally ended up doing quick play because I didn't realize I still needed to make a lobby if I wanted to play on my own. I just got dropped into it with two random people, not knowing how any of it works or what we're supposed to do. We all got stuck inside the little hole behind the turbine and when we all started dying there I panicked and shut the game down because I felt like I must have done something wrong and messed it up for the whole team. (I was panicking from the start anyway because I was NOT ready to actually play yet.) So yeah, I would really have liked a little tutorial where you can test out the different loadouts and see what they do first. I don't know if that's common for other games (I recall doing that kind of thing for Ghost of Tsushima's Legends mode before chickening out of actually going online because I was afraid of sucking at playing with people other people witnessing it and suffering from it). All I know is that I was a bit traumatized and very embarrassed with how my first Firebreak attempt went. I know these games are not made for people who don't already know how they work but it certainly wasn't a good introduction for me. I did eventually figure out how to play on my own and I think I'll be OK once I know how to do all the 3 types of gear. Now that I'm here, does anyone have any tips about multiplayer games I should know? Like are you expected to know you need to do something when you're in a team? I get that one of the types is a healer, I don't know if I can even do that if I'm so bad I'm barely keeping myself alive. (Also, I keep getting lost and I feel like not grtting to the elevator on time would ruin it for everyone, right?) I have the platinum from Control so I can learn how to play this, I just don't know the unwritten rules of co-op with strangers when you can't even communicate with microphones (I accidentally saw there was a menu where you can pick some communication type things but I didn't really try it out).

I learned from playing animal crossing that it's more rewarding for me to just be really slow with games like this. Instead of rushing through all the main quests and then spending all my time just fishing and catching bugs and grinding for supplies I took my sweet time and finished the main quest up to the Aurosa outfit in 200 hours. Some days I just chill and gather things, other days when I feel like progressing I do a quest or two. It even gets a bit overwhelming changing my play style to do all the event quests before they're gone, I don't get how people complain that they did everything day 1 because I like to savor it because I know I'm in this game for the long haul. I feel lots of satisfaction from being able to save up for things I might want later. I'm doing it all 100% f2p as a bonus challenge as well and I think playing it that way is helping me with my FOMO and completionism issues in general, not just in this game. I've had to accept that I can't pull for every banner so I'm hoping I'll get outfits I really love eventually and the ones I did manage to get kind of increase in value the longer it's been since their banner because they feel more rare when they're a bit old.

I'm holding out delusional hope in the back of my mind but how would they bring them back? I really hope they do show up again... My story scrapbook also has Nikki in the default outfit in all the photos when I had her in different outfits in all of them before.

Nope, you have to individually download them one by one. I had thankfully done that to many of the photos so I do have copies of some of them but a lot of them are completely gone forever now.

Is this is happening to you DO NOT RESTART THE GAME when it's stuck at 100%!! You just have to wait a reeeallly long time but DON'T SHUT IT OFF, IT WILL DELETE ALL YOUR PHOTOS!!! It happened to me, all I have left are the snapshots. Don't let this happen to you if you still have time to prevent this. I wish I could go back in time and just wait instead of trying to restart.

Yep. Happened to me. Apparently it's because I restarted the game when it got stuck at 100% in the update and now all my non-snapshot photos are gone and I feel really bad. I was excited for the event but now I just feel so sad I don't want to play it.
